"Leave without Pay" connotes and means " Leave of Absense from Duty" duly applied for by an Employee who has No Leave due to be availed with Wages/Salary and " then the said Leave of Absense duly considered and Sanctioned by the Employer/Management, considering Spl/ Circumstances whereunder Leave without Pay is granted.
Loss of Pay connotes and includes No Payable for certain Stated Reason resulting from even due to Disciplinary Action for Acts of Misconduct and or other specified reason.

There is a difference as far as service rules governing public servants are concerned. If "leave without pay" has been duly sanctioned, it entails that the period is concerned as service and there will be no adverse consequences. "Loss of pay" pay signifies unauthorized absence entailing break in service with all its adverse consequences unless the period is got regularised.

Leave Without Pay - May be authorized or may be unauthorized. An employee was absent from duty without any information or without any leave balance. Management may or may not sanction the leave. Therefore, it may be authorized or unauthorized.
Loss of Pay- It may happen not only for leave but also for several reasons e.g. late coming, early leaving, joining illegal strike, leaving working place without informing superior for long time etc. etc.

They both are one and the same thing. LOP stands for Loss of Pay and LWP stands for Leave Without Pay. It technically means you will not be paid for the leaves you have taken. Ideally if you take a casual or sick leave, you get paid for that day but you can be on leave and in LOP/LWP your salary gets deducted on per day basis and eventually it will reflect on your payslip.

“Loss of Pay” means that the employee concerned is not getting paid for being absent with or without permission. This simply denotes the monetary consequence of remaining absent. “Leave Without Pay” on the other hand signifies that the employee is on authorised leave, albeit without salary/wages. In the case of the former one is not sure if the absence from work of the employee is duly sanctioned whereas in the case of the latter the employee is absent from work with permission.
