Govt. of India should now think very seriously towards real implementation of set rules for Fire Safety of High Rise Buildings... Otherwise these kind of incidents and news may be become a very common thing...
Now the causes for this fire is not known. But why allows this fire to turn into dangerous one? Why not there was an earlier detection and extinguish of the same?

It is so sad to see such news. Now it is the time to wake up and beef up our fire security arrangement in all the high rise buildings and in Government Offices and hospitals. Let the almighty keep the departed souls to rest in peace.

Very sad to hear this. When our government revise our law regarding high rise building like Gulf Countries
Emergency response plans compulsory by year's end - The National then only we can stop/avoid such kind of accidents in our country.

Already the rules are available in Andhra Pradesh State. For getting approval the High rise buildings must have fire fighting provisions and fire overhead tank and underground sump with all fire equipments. Even Fire and Smoke detectors are to be fitted for getting the approval from Municipal office and then only electricity connections will be given.
The same should be adopted in all the states of India. Then only such accidents can be avoided.

Its really very sad news that almost 73 people died and many of them seriouly injured in kolkota hospital fire, nearly all victims choke to death an the upper floors in the wee hours. This is one example, like this many lives lost in the previous fire accidents also,
1)Aug 6 2001: close to 30 mentally ill people died in a mental asylum fire in Erawadi, Tamil nadu.
2)Jan 23 2004: Marriage hall fire kills 50 in srinagaram, Again Tamil nadu.
3)july 16 2004: 94 children killed in a fire accident at a school in Kumbakonam,Tamil nadu.
4) sep 15 2005: 35 people killed & over 50 injured as fire breaks out in illegal fire cracker factories in Khusropur vil of Bhihar.
6) Apr 10 2006: over 60 killed more than 80 injured in Tent trade fair in Meerut.
7) FEB23,2010 Nine killed & over 60 injured in carlton towers fire Bangalore.
8)March 23,2010: 43 died in the park street building fire in kolkatta,
9) November 20, 2011: 14 killed & over 50 injured in fire accident at a community function of Eunuchs in Nand nagari, Delhi.
10)Dec 9,2011: over 80 killed as a fire breakes out at AMRI hospital Kolkota
It really shocking news if study the statistics of Fire Accident, Even though after repeted Fire accidents why our Goverment taking these incidents lightly & not ready to draft amandments to control Fire accidents. Its really sorry to write here that no party/ system is ready to give thier agenda in the intrest of security of nation & well being of people to live safely by taking proactive roles. Now atleast Govt shoud wake up & introspect them selves what actions so for Govt. have taken to mitigate & control these Fire accidents.

Really very sad news, in hospitals peoples goes for their treatments either their relatives treatments. It's really shameful accident for our government or concern hospital management. It shows theri lazyness in security and safety.
In our country especially in govt departments peoples are not following the safety norms, because they are not educated on safety. Suppose any incident/accident happened in India, Everyone blames to each other the peoples talks that word i.e, "No Safety at Particular Place, thats why incident/accident happened". But they really know that which type of safety precautions/Standards to be follow in hospitals,railway stations, bus stations, temples, mosques etc crowded place.
Because in our great country govt. licenses is easliy available if you pay bribe to govt. employees, they will not check any Safety criteria, they will issue to you license immediately.
India can not change untill corruption, unemployment and other problems not resolved.

This is my first 'tweet' on Citehr, which i have just joined. just to say as a complete outsider (but this I mean non -Indian), it is criminal that either the owners and/or the administrators should be allowed to get away with sheer criminal neglect - i believe this is the 2nd time?!
Health, safety and Environmental laws are on the statute books for good reason (in fact this reason!) and should be obeyed.
My thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.

One thing I want to mention about the heading of this thread.It is read as Calcutta Hospital fire.There is a nursing home at Kolkata namely Calcutta Medical Research Institue which is locally known as Calcutta Hospital.The incidence occurred at AMRI .Hence the heading is a bit misleading.
It is the saddest happening the city has faced in recent past .Patients who go to hospitals and nursing homes for treatment and cure lost their lives not due to their disease and ailment but due to the utter negligence of the authority.It was an eye opener of the conditions of the nursinghomes in our country which from outside are dazzling but inside they are death traps.90 innocent lives were lost .
Will the authority be punished?Even if they are punished what will be the level of punishment?What exactly should be the punishment given to these mass murderers?Though the police have arrested the Board of Managing Directors of AMRI which is coowned by Emami and Srachi group,but in our country we all know how much the money power matters.

Stricter laws,responsive administration and authorities would be a welcome expectation. Looking at ourselves even these if put in practice lose sheen after some time.The out growth overtakes the control mechanisms. Either they become corrupt, outdated or fatalistic. The young and responsive class need to join hands and question as enlightened groups anything which is irregular,negligent,evasive,inefficient or arrogant. Only such enlightened crusades may bring a sense of responsibility which in effect would make the laws more effective and a life more transparent.
