An employee left job one week ago. He was marked as exit from both ESIC and EPFO. He didn’t withdraw his PF contribution.
After one week, he re-joined in the same company.
Can he be re-joined in ESIC-EPFO with the same UAN/IP?

Note: This time his salary increased by 25%.

Certainly, you have to rejoin him with same ESI Number and UAN. Salary has no relevance here.

Dear Krishanu,

What Mr. Madhu T K has been recommended is absolutely ok. Only thing you have to check that as the salary increase during rejoining is 25% and due to that if his monthly gross becomes more than 21,000/- , the employee will not be covered under ESIC.

Dear Mr. Madhu

In this rejoining case, PF UAN No. to be same and in ESIC, if applicable - IP No. to be same as previous.

Hence, in PF the site will not allow you to generate new UAN no. as the employee is already having one and in ESIC, it is mandatory requirement of the department to use the same IP no. which the employee is having previously.

Yes, whenever an employee under ESI coverage joins, we should first ensure that the employee's previous ESI number is put in the system. Since the telephone, Bank account and adhar are linked, the ESI website to register the employee will reject it if you create a new registration. When you start registering an employee, the system will ask, whether the employee has an existing ESI number or not. If you put Yes, you have to put the number and the date of joining there, then the system will automatically take you to his details as per ESI site. You can just 'update' it and with that he will become your employee. Sometimes, the system will ask for bank account and mobile number updation and once it is done, the process is over. In case you need to change the address and dispensary then that can be done in due course.
