Starting a thread to understand the key issues faced by HR Professionals in India.
Please write one or two issues which you experienced in your service period and also the solution that you have found (if any).
Beginning with one problem, here.
Problem : Resistance to change when we introduced automation of leave of absence in a specific group of senior employees in a manufacturing company. 120 senior cadre staff were allowed earlier to sign in register and paper based leave applications were tracked earlier in a haphazard manner. Leave encashment, accounting year closing, and end of service benefits computation were nightmares for HR & Finance staff for this particular group. When automated, there were excuses like system failure, no time, will do next time, learning curve etc. End of the first month shows non-participation from at least 40% of staff.
Solution : Instead of implementing a regular fine, reminder, deduction of salary affair, the company decided to run a campaign to promote the participants. The banners and notes on the names of all those who were active in employee portal, the guys who got their encashment online etc. were in limelight. With Rs.5000 towards marketing expense, HR team for the first time made a drive of this kind and surprisingly the second month, the usage of the system moved green and became 95%. The 5% left over cases were handled on a one to one basis and resolved.
