I would like to know whether the Standing Order Act would be applicable to commercial establishments in Maharashtra. I under stand that the old shops and establishment act contained a specific provision for the same but the 2017 Maharashtra Shops Act does not contain that provision.

Across India the provisions of Standing Orders Act are applicable when 100 and more workmen employed in industrial establishment but in the State of Maharashtra as per the Amendment dated 15.6. 1982 the provisions of the Standing Orders are applicable when 50 or more workmen are employed.
With the implementation of new Labour Code, the number of workmen will change.
