In general, the notice period is a mutual agreement between the employer and the employee. If the employment contract specifies a 60-day notice period and the employer agrees to it, both parties are typically expected to adhere to the terms of the agreement. However, there are cases where an employer may choose to accept a resignation immediately, even if the notice period is longer. It could be due to various reasons, such as company policies, operational requirements, or mutual agreement between the employer and the employee.
