Dear Saraswathi,
As per the factories act 1948, Tamil nadu factories rules 1950 No adult worker shall be required to work in a factory for more than 48 hours in a week or more than 9 hours in a day.
Application shall be made at least 15 days prior to the engagement of workers on overtime work;
Exemption will be granted after scrutiny and perusal of the documents.
Exemption will be granted for a quarter at a time starting with January, April, July and October.
The exemption granted restrict the overtime hours to 75 hours in a quarter per quarter in addition to other conditions mentioned in the exemption order.

Maximum working hours 10 hours in a day including ½ an hour interval 54 hours in a week
Maximum working hours including O.T. Shall not exceed 60
The spread over including interval for rest, shall not exceed 12 hours on any one day.
The total number of hours of overtime work shall not exceed 50 for any one quarter.
If Exemption is applied - the Factory Inspector may extend this to 75 hours a quarter.
Explanation: ‘Quarter’ means a period of three consecutive months beginning on the 1st of January, the 1st of April, the 1st of July, or the 1st of October
Wages : For the purposes of sub-section (1), "ordinary rate of wages" means the basic wages plus such allowances, including the cash equivalent of the advantage accruing through the concessional sale to workers of food grains and other articles, as the worker is for the time being entitled to, but does not include a bonus and wages for overtime work.
