Dear Qasim Raza,
The organisational assessment can be done on the following two counts:
a) Swot Analysis: - Through a comprehensive questionnaire, the strengths, and weaknesses are assessed. Based on this analysis, further, it is analysed whether an opportunity can be availed of from the strength. Likewise, whether today's organisational weakness can pose a threat tomorrow. Nevertheless, there can be a threat independent of the organisation's weakness also. After doing SWOT Analysis, an action plan is made to avail of the opportunities and eradicate the weaknesses.
b) Cultural Survey: - Cultural surveys are different from the "Employee Satisfaction Surveys". While the former focus on what they observe in the organisation, the latter is on how they view what happens in the organisation. When I say "organisation's culture", I do not mean to say culture as a single entity. However, many sub-cultures exist within the organisation. A few of them are as below:
i) A culture of performance
ii) A culture of teamwork
iii) A culture of accountability
iv) A culture of ownership
v) A culture of communication
vi) A culture of empowerment
vii) A culture of justice and fairness
viii) A culture of feedback and so on
After conducting an organisation's culture survey, an action plan is made to improve a particular sub-culture for which there are the least marks.
Conducting SWOT Analysis and an organisation's cultural survey requires an expert's assistance. These things cannot be done after downloading something from Google. "Half knowledge is dangerous", says the adage. The adage could come true if the tinkering is done with the system.
