Dear Arwa-Chitalwala-Hirani,

The definition of social justice is, "fair treatment of all people in a society, including respect for the rights of minorities and equitable distribution of resources among members of a community." If you wish to read an article on social justice then you may click here.

Giving a fair treatment of all people in a society is the job of the government. Governments, the world over, try giving a fair treatment by enacting the laws for the social good and further create an administrative mechanism for the implementation of the laws. Before enacting the laws, they are expected to be bipartisan and listen to those who oppose the laws as well. That is why the elected representatives generally debate the bills introduced in the assemblies or the parliaments. The route may appear the long one but shortcuts could lead to social tensions and the bills passed hastily could do more harm than the social good.

While you have raised the query on bringing social justice, you have not mentioned what is your designation, what is the nature of your organisation, whether it is government or semi-government or private one etc. Above all, you could have mentioned why a need was felt to bring a policy on social justice. Is it your intellectual curiosity arose during leisure?

This forum is of HR professionals and most of the members are from the business organisations. Generally, they deal with the labour laws. The Government of India has enacted several labour laws to avoid workplace slavery or employees' exploitation. These are the steps taken to bring social justice in India. By implementing labour laws meticulously in their respective organisations, heads of the organisations, whether profit-making or non-profit making, can achieve social justice.

India has a diverse culture. Therefore, going beyond the labour laws, business organisations or even non-profit organisations can make their own internal rules to foster workforce diversity. While the constitution of India prohibits the discrimination of any kind, the organisations can take precautions to ensure discriminatory tendencies do not creep in.

Please elaborate your query. While such queries are good, the querist is expected to do justice to his/her post by giving sufficient background information in the very first instance.

Thanks,

Social justice policy for any Indian organisation shall promote the constitutional and social obligations bestowed upon it. The following article wise position from the Constitution of India is given below which are self explanatory:
Equality before law
15. Prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth
16. Equality of opportunity in matters of public employment (Can be voluntarily extended to private employment too)
17. Abolition of Untouchability
18. Abolition of titles (like non-mention of the royalty titles)
Additionally, from the social justice point is relevant the promotion of opportunities for the physically challenged as well as the third sex members.
