Respected Mr CP Gurnani,

I refer to your following tweet: https://twitter.com/C_P_Gurnani/status/1667140990413537284?s=20

When OpenAI founder Sam Altman said “𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮”, you have come forward and taken up the challenge. We the common people of India are thankful to you for taking up the cudgels.

When a visiting CEO comes forward and says that Indians are no match to compete with the innovative products launched by the US companies, eyebrows are bound to be raised.

In India, we are not accustomed to listening to the CEOs who call a spade a spade. Over and above, the ruling dispensation always tells us that everything in India is goody-goody. Against this backdrop, Altman’s forthrightness may come as a shocker. The jingoist may find it difficult to digest such forthrightness.

Be as it may, the remarks by the founder of OpenAI call for introspection. More than 30 years passed since MS Office launched, but India could not come up with a competing version. Notwithstanding the vast pool of IT Engineers, India could not produce competing versions of Google’s search engine or social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc. Indian IT companies could not come up with a competing version of SAP as well. Our reliance on the US or European companies has been granted forever.

The nudge by Altman may perturb Indias but they need to know what outsiders think of India. 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘈𝘭𝘵𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘱 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥𝘸𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘸𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘤𝘳𝘺!

The common citizens of India would have been elated if ChatGPT had taken birth in India. Unfortunately, it did not happen and like other companies, they are toeing the line of yet another US company.

You have taken a challenge to compete with ChapGPT. Wishing you the best of luck. Your challenge has aroused an interest in our minds as to when this challenge will be fulfilled.

Regards,
