Can I be asked not to speak my native language at work or to speak English only? I have been asked to speak only English at my work even though it is not a business requirement.

The medium of communication of an establishment is only decided by the employer and as an employee, you have to equip yourself to be fluent in that language. If you understand that the insistence on speaking only in the official language of the organization even in normal routines is only an indirect attempt to improve your official communication.

And also an attempt to avoiding developing any groups based on language. Besides speaking some language not understood by others is not good etiquette

Legally you cannot be stopped from speaking your own native language neither the company can allege any 'misconduct' against you in this regard unless your such speaking in native language is causing any harm or loss to the business.
