Every man who wants to develop his personality also wants to become popular. Man’s life is a burden without popularity. If we leave aside certain action, there is not much difference between a man and an animal. Everybody can be popular if he/you takes care of these few enlisted personality development tips. These personality development tips are very simple to read but they are very effective and powerful- try in your day to day life..

If you want to progress in life than honestly analyze the traits of your character.

Do not laugh at people when they are in difficulty or trouble other wise you will loose your personality in a moment.

This is a great way to develop your personality by listening everyone politely, even if their ideas are baseless or not of your interest.

During conversation do not keep talking yourself too much.

When ever somebody brings any gift for you, don’t forget to praise it. It does not matter even if you were expecting something else.

Make other feel that you love them.

Keep your moral high in case of defeat and be more polite on being victorious.

Solve your problems in a creative way. Try your best not to let these spoil your relations with your friends.

Enlist your bad habits and try to get rid of them.

We should not uplift our standard of living but also help others to do so. Try to remove the feeling of inferiority in others by loving them and by keeping good behavior towards them.

Be careful of what your say about others because others will say the same thing about us at different times and at different places and in this way form a public opinion about us.

Some people often have a favorite sentence which they repeat frequently. We should try and get rid and get rid of such a habit.

Independence increases our good qualities and personality and slavery bad qualities.

Independent thinking and freedom to work is the only source of progress and welfare.

Love is the greatest magic in this world. You can do every thing with help of love. Develop this art to improve your personality.

Positive attitude is of great importance in our personality. No body like people who have narrowed out look. In life only that person is considered well behaved who has positive and healthy bend of mind.

The real beauty of man lies not in his physical appearance but in his work and good qualities. That is why it is important that we improve mental outlook to develop our personality.

Every individual should develop the ability to adjust with others, because basically man is a social animal, so one can not survive by living alone.

Some people keep repeating a particular statement and it becomes a part of their nature. At the most you may repeat a statement twice but it you do it more than that it leaves a bad impact.

Ask some Questions from yourself.

Do you behave with your family members in the same manner as you behave with your master or your boss?

Would you like to joke even in such a situation when you that it would hurt the sentiments of other.

Do you take care of this that no one is hurt by you?

Do you take care of the feelings of those who are younger than you?

TIPS FOR OVERCOMING SHYNESS

Shyness affects many people. It can affect our ability to go to a job interview, or speak up in class, and our general everyday interaction with people.

Everyone feels a bit shy at one time or another. It is normal to feel shy or nervous in new situations or in front of an audience. Most people overcome this on their own and are still able to function normally.

However, there are many people who are unable to overcome their shyness. Severe shyness or "Personal Anxiety Disorder" sometimes require medication and therapy.

Disclaimer: Since I am not a therapist, I will not provide medical advice. Anyone who believes they have Social Anxiety Disorder should get professional help. The tips outlined in this article may provide some help for people with this disorder, but it is meant for showing people coping skills to deal specifically with shyness. Using the following tips may help you gain the confidence to approach people and actually strike up a conversation.

1. This may sound silly, but before you go out and approach a person, whether it is an aquaintance at work or a teacher, practice at home. Look in the mirror and say "Hello. How are you today?" If you practice enough, when you say it to the person, it will sound natural and it will feel natural to say it to the person.

2. Practice good posture and work on your smile. Even if still feel a bit shy, you will be more approachable and the person you intend to speak with may make the first move.

3. If you have a job interview, find someone you know to practice with. Sometimes community groups or employment programs offer sessions where you can do this. If you practice possible interview scenarios, you will be better prepared for the questions the potential employer might ask. You will be able to answer with confidence because you will know beforehand the answer that you wish to give.

4. Try joining a toastmaster's club. They practice public speaking in supportive groups.

5. Join a support group to find other people with the same difficulty. The support groups are usually small, informal, and very friendly. They do their best to make you feel at ease. People who are or have already overcome their shyness can give the best advice because they have firsthand experience about what it is like to feel shy.

6. Self fulfilling prophesy: Look in the mirror when you wake up, say out loud what your goals for the day are (I will talk to the new guy/girl at work today, for example), then visualize your self actually doing it. If you feel you need more time, do it the night before as well, or take as much time as you need until you feel ready.

7. When you do take the step and actually strike up a conversation, go slowly. Talk about "safe" topics such as the weather or current events. Eventually you will notice that you will have something in common with the person you are talking to and the conversation will flow naturally. You will soon forget about your shyness.

8. Finally, the most important thing you can do to overcome shyness is to believe in yourself. You can do whatever you put your mind to.

When people have confidence, they are able to interact and meet with people, go after the jobs they want, and accomplish their goals. It is important to overcome shyness to be able to accomplish your goals

TIPS TO IMPROVE CONCENTRATION

1. To enhance your concentration and powers of focus, count your steps when you walk. This is a particularly strong technique. Take six steps while taking a long inhale, hold your breath for another six steps, and then exhale for six steps. If six steps is too long for the breaths, do whatever you feel comfortable with. You will feel very alert, refreshed, internally quiet and centered after this exercise. So many people allow their minds to be filled with mental chatter. All peak performers appreciate the power of a quiet, clear mind which will concentrate steadily on all important tasks.

2. Enhance your will-power; it is likely one of the best training programs you can invest in. Here are some ideas to strengthen your will and become a stronger person:

a) Do not let your mind float like a piece of paper in the wind. Work hard to keep it focused at all times. When doing a task, think of nothing else. When walking to work, count the steps that it takes to get all the way to the office. This is not easy but your mind will soon understand that you hold its reins and not vice versa. Your mind must eventually become as still as a candle flame in a corner where there is no draft

b) Your will is like a muscle. You must first exercise it and then push before it gets stronger. This necessarily involves short term pain but be assured that the improvements will come and will touch your character in a most positive way. When you are hungry, wait another hour before your meal. When you are laboring over a difficult task and your mind is prompting you to pick up the latest magazine for a break or to get up and go talk to a friend, curb the impulse. Soon you will be able to sit for hours in a precisely concentrated state. Sir Issac Newton, one of the greatest classical physicists the world has produced, once said: "if I have done the public any service, it is due to patient thought." Newton had a remarkable ability to sit quietly and think without interruption for very long periods of time. If he can develop this so can you.

c) You can also build your will-power by restraint in your conduct with others. Speak less (use the 60/40 Rule = listen 60% of the time and speak a mere 40%, if that). This will not only make you more popular but you will learn much wisdom as everyone we meet, every day has something to teach us. Also restrain the urge to gossip or to condemn someone who you feel has made a mistake. Stop complaining and develop a cheerful, vital and strong personality. You will greatly influence others.

3. Become a highly disciplined time manager. There are roughly 168 hours in a week. This surely allows plenty of time for achievement of the many goals we desire to accomplish. Be ruthless with your time. Set aside a few minutes each morning to plan your day. Plan around your priorities and focus on not only those tasks which are immediate but not important (i.e., many telephone calls) but especially on those which are important but not urgent, for these allow for the greatest personal and professional development. Important but not immediate activities are those which produce long-term, sustainable benefits and include exercise, strategic planning, the development of relationships and professional education. Never let the things which matter most be placed in the backseat as compared to those that matter least.

4.The Two Minute Mind is an excellent exercise for developing concentration. Simply stare at the second hand on your wristwatch for two minutes and think about nothing else for that time. At first your mind will wander but after 21 days of practice, your attention will not waver during the routine. One of the greatest qualities a person can develop to ensure his success is the ability to focus for extended periods of time. Learn to build up your concentration muscles and no task will be too difficult for you.

5. To enhance your concentration, read a passage in a book you have never explored. Then try to recite it verbatim. Practice this for only 5 minutes a day and enjoy the results which follow after a few months of effort.

6. 83% of our sensory input comes from our eyes. To truly concentrate on something, shut your eyes and you will remove much distraction.

Tips for Women Who Want to Work Well with Men

John Gray, one of the world's foremost communication experts, offers 32 tips to help you understand, respect and benefit from the differences between women and men and how they operate, both in and out of the workplace.

1. When presenting a proposal or plan of action, talk less about the problem and more about what you think should be done.

2. Be direct when you make a request. Don't talk about a problem and wait for him to offer his support. Often men feel manipulated when women are not direct. It is as if he "should do it" without your having to ask.

3. Give him more space when he moans or groans. Don't give him a pat on the back. Avoid doing anything that demonstrates a feeling of motherly empathy.

4. Get to the point when making a suggestion. Avoid talking too much about problems. Remember, men hear sharing as complaining.

5. Only complain when you have a solution to suggest. Take less time to explain the problem and quickly move on to suggest a solution.

6. After asking for his advice, be careful not to correct his solution or explain in great detail why you are not going to follow his advice. By allowing him to save face, a woman gains points.

7. Give credit and recognition whenever he has achieved something.

8. In public build him up. If you want to point out a mistake or suggest a change, do it in private.

9. Graciously interrupt in a group meeting. Don't say, "Can I say something?" Instead, go with the flow and say something more friendly like, "That's true, I think . . ."

10. Use a relaxed and trusting tone of voice when discussing work problems. Men are repelled by the tone of being emotionally overwhelmed.

11. Stay focused on the task at hand and postpone the sharing of personal feelings. Keep your work life and personal life separate.

12. When asking for support, keep your emotions out of it and focus on stating what you want. Take time to justify your request if you are asked why you need more.

13. If you must complain to your manager or coworker, be objective and avoid making value judgments like, "It's not fair" or "He isn't doing his job." Instead say, "He was three hours late. I was the only one there to do a job that requires two people."

14. If there is too much being expected of you, ask for the support you need, but don't complain. He reasons, "Don't waste time complaining, instead do something to get the support you need."

15. When making a presentation or discussing something, don't be overly eager or automatically reassuring while listening. Let him feel that he is earning your agreement and support.

16. Pace yourself. After listening to a man, let him know that something is helpful before you bring up more issues or questions.

17. Share your experience to back up a request and don't quote an expert. For example, don't say, "John Gray says you should listen to me more . . . ." Instead say, "I would appreciate it if you would listen a little longer before responding."

18. Stay on schedule. Let a man know up front how long you expect a meeting to last.

19. Distance yourself. As a manager, depersonalize your directions with comments like, "We are expected to . . ." and then ask him to do what you want with a phrase like, "Would you . . ." or "Please . . ."

20. Shake hands. When a man comes into the room and you are sitting, stand up and shake hands as equals.

21. When stress increases, act as if everything is OK. Worrying or showing concern about him can be offensive. A more relaxed response demonstrates a level of trust that says, "I'm sure you can handle it."

22. If you are in a supportive role, rather than do everything in an invisible manner, sometimes ask in a friendly tone, "Would you like me to . . ." In this way, he realizes how much you do and can give you the points you deserve.

23. Don't ask a man how he feels about something; instead ask what he thinks about something. By appreciating his logic, you can score a point.

24. Introduce yourself. In a business setting in which many people are being introduced, introduce yourself so that the male host doesn't have to remember everyone's name and introduce each person.

25. When introducing a man to others, always include his accomplishments, expertise, or role in the company.

26. When you disagree or are challenged by others in a group meeting, stick to your argument and do not digress by sharing how you personally feel. Even if you have a better point, you may be discredited because of your emotional delivery.

27. If an argument has already become emotionally charged, gracefully find a way to take a break. Say something like, "Give me some time to think about this and then let's talk again." Overcome the temptation to say, "You're not being fair." or "You are not listening to me." "Excuse me for that outburst." also works well.

28. Don't take it personally. Recognize that most men don't like being told what to do. If your job requires that you give him instructions, to minimize the inevitable tension, prepare him by saying, "Is this a good time to review some changes?" or "Let's schedule a time when we can meet. I have some changes I need to convey."

29. Be clear about the tasks you want. When dividing up projects or tasks, state clearly which ones you want or prefer. Women don't get points from men for being uncertain and saying, "What do you want to do?" You get points for clarity if you know what you want and then even more points if you make a reasonable compromise.

30. Celebrate the completion of a long or important project. Men, and women, greatly appreciate special occasions to celebrate or recognize people and their contributions. Give awards, certificates, or presents.

31. If you don't have an answer or a solution, don't let on right away. Always appear confident. Avoid the phrase, "I am still working that one out."

32. Display your awards, certificates, and degrees on the walls of your office. Display pictures of you with successful people or involved with different work projects. If a man shows interest, describe your success with a tone of confidence

TIPS TO LOOSE WEIGHT

1. Drink plenty of water

2. Start your day with a glass of water

3. Drink a glass of water before you start the meal.

4. Have another glass of water while you are having the meal

5. Stay away from sweetened bottle drinks, especially sodas.

6. Include in your diet things that contain more water like tomatoes and watermelons

7. Eat fresh fruit instead of drinking fruit juice.

8. If you do have a craving for fruit juice then go for fresh fruit juice

9. Choose fresh fruit to processed fruits

10. Increase your fiber intake

11. Go crazy on vegetables

12. Eat intelligently. The difference between man and beast is that we are driven by intelligence while beasts are driven by instinct. Don’t just eat something because you feel like eating it. Ask you’re self whether your body really needs it.

13. Watch what you eat. Keep a watchful eye on every thing that goes in. Sometimes the garnishes can richer than the food itself. Accompaniments too can be very rich. Remember that it is the easiest thing in the world to eat something without realizing that it was something that you should not have eaten. Selective memory you know’

14. Control that sweet tooth.Remember that sweet things generally mean more calories. It is natural that we have cravings for sweet things especially chocolates and other confectionary. Go easy on theses things and each time you consume something sweet understand that it is going to add on somewhere.

15. Fix times to have meals and stick to it

16. Eat only when you are hungry

17. Quit snacking in between meals

18. Snack on vegetables if you must

19. Go easy on tea and coffee. Tea and coffee are harmless by themselves. It’s when you add the cream and sugar that they become fattening. Did you know that having a cup of tea or coffee that has cream and at least two cubes of sugar is as bad as having a big piece of rich chocolate cake’

20. Try to stick to black tea/coffee.Black tea or coffee can actually be good for you. But recommend tea rather than coffee. The caffeine in the coffee is not really good for you because it is an alkaloid and can affect other functions of your body like the metabolism.

21. Count the calories as you eat. It’s a good idea to have an idea of the calories that most food items have. If it is a packed thing then the label is sure to have the calories that the substance has.

22. be sure to burn out those extra calories by the end of the week. If you feel that you have consumed more calories than you should have during the week, it happens you know, and then make sure that you work off those extra calories by the end of the week.

23. Stay away from fried things. Fried things are an absolute no-no. The more fried things that you avoid, the lesser weight you will gain. Fried things are called so because they are fried in oil or fat. And even if the external oil is drained away, there is still a lot of hidden oil in it so stay away from it.

24. Do not skip meals. The worst thing you can do while watching you diet is skip a meal. It has just the opposite effect of what you want. You need to have at least four regular meals every day.

25. Fresh vegetables are better than cooked or canned vegetables

26. Nothing more than an egg a day

27. Make chocolates a luxury and not a routine

28. Choose a variety of foods from all food groups every day. This is a fine way of keeping deficiency diseases at bay. Change the items included in your diet every day. This is an excellent way of keeping deficiency diseases at bay and it helps you to experiment with a variety of dishes and there by you do not get bored of your diet.

29. If you can say no to alcoholic beverages please do

30. Try to have breakfast within one hour of waking

31. 50 to 55% of your diet should be carbohydrates. It is a myth that you should try and avoid carbohydrates when you are on a diet. Rather the other way round I should say. Carbohydrates are a ready source of energy and so 50 to 55% of your diet should be carbohydrates.

32. 25 to 30% of your diet should be proteins. Various processes and activities are going on in our bodies. Things are broken down and being built up again. Resistance has to be built up, recovery from disease too is needed and for all this the body needs plenty of proteins so see to it that 25 to 30 % of your diet consists of proteins

33. Fats should only be 15 to 20 %. You need only this much of fat in your diet so keep it at that.

34. Try and adopt a vegetarian diet

35. Choose white meat rather than red. White meat, which includes fish and fowl, is miles better than red meat, which includes beef and pork for those trying to lose weight.

36. High Fiber multigrain breads are better than white breads.

37. Reduce your intake of pork. Pork is not something that can help you to lose weight. So the lesser pork you eat the better chances you have of losing weight. And remember that pork includes the pork products as well, things like bacon, ham and sausages.

38. Limit your sugar intake.

39. Graze 5 to 6 times a day. Instead of sticking to just three meals a day, try grazing.Grazing means try having 5 or 6 smaller meals instead of three king sized meals. It is an excellent way of having smaller quantities of food.

40. Go ahead eat cheat food, but only for flavor. There are many things which you have to avoid from your diet but which you may have an undying craving for. Do not avoid them altogether. You could call them cheat foods and indulge in them once in a while. But take care just to tingle your taste buds, don’t hog on them. Instead of that share them with others. In this way

41. Watch your fat intake. Each fat gram contains 9 calories so by reading the total calories on a food and knowing the quantity of fat, you can estimate the % of fat, which should in no way exceed 30% of the food.

42. Go easy on salt, as too much salt is one of the causes of obesity. Make it a point to really cut down on salt. Try to bring down your salt intake to half of what it was last year

43. Change from table butter to cholesterol free butter.

44. Instead of frying things try baking them without fat.

45. Use a non stick frying pan for your cooking so that you do not have to add oil.

46. Boil your vegetables instead of cooking them

47. Carry parsley with you. Parsley is an excellent thing to munch on in between meals. Not just is it good for you in terms of vitamins, but it is also a perfect way of making your breath fresher

48. Choose low fat substitutes or no fat substitutes.

49. Avoid crash diets

50. God gave us teeth for a reason... Therefore we should develop a habit of chewing all food including liquid food and soft foods like sweets, ice creams at least 8 to 12 times. This is essential to add saliva to the food, as it is only in the saliva that sugar is digested. Often we find that whatever goes into our mouth goes down like lightning. We hardly give the saliva any time to act on the food. So does digestion take place like it should’ Do we just stuff our tummies with food that doesn’t get digested or in other words that doesn’t yield the benefits that it should’

51. Dry wine is better than sweet wine

52. When you decide it’s time to start working out, start slowly and don’t get discouraged if you don’t achieve your fitness goals after the first week. Many people make this mistake. They feel that if they really push their bodies they can lose more weight in a couple of work outs. This is a very serious thing in fact. If you try to push your body too much in the first few goes, you are likely to end up with sprained joints, a sore back and even torn ligaments. The rule to be followed here is slow and steady wins the race.

53.Check your weight before you start the routine and keep checking for changes but do not expect a radical change immediately, it might be one or two weeks before you notice some change. However it is crucial that you continue to monitor your weight. You may bear in mind the fact that even a few pounds loss is a big achievement.

54. You can take a day off from exercise every week

55. Exercise out doors as far as possible

56. Try to get somebody to exercise along with you

57. Stop when your body has had enough

58. If you want to increase your time of exercise or your work out routine, do it gradually

TEN TIPS FOR STUDENTS

1. Take Notes Effectively

A good set of notes can serve you well. Your notes help you remember which concepts your professor stressed and, thus, give you an idea as to what will be covered in the exam. Note taking also helps you concentrate on the lecture

Before class

Preview the pertinent chapter in your textbook.

Review your notes from last class.

Formulate questions to ask in class.

Make sure you have plenty of paper and your favourite pen or pencil.

During class

Listen for and write down main ideas rather than try to record everything.

Watch for cues from your professor that help you select and organize main ideas.

Use abbreviations wherever possible.

Leave space to add missing ideas later.

After class

Read your notes over and fill in missing details as soon as possible.

Check a classmate's notes to see if you missed significant details.

Relate your class notes to notes from your text to get the complete picture.

Review your notes regularly and test yourself to see how much you can recall

2. Learn to Read Actively

Most of the material you have to learn at university is presented in written form. That's why it's so important to know an active reading technique that will enable you to learn and remember what you read

Survey: Before you start to read, take a few minutes to skim over the main features of the text: title, headings, introduction, summary, pictures/graphs, margin notes, etc. This will give you an idea of what the chapter or journal article is about and what the big, important ideas are.

Question: Turn the heading of the section into a question such as "What is .....?" A question helps you read faster and remember better.

Read: Read the section selectively to answer your question.

Recall: When you've finished reading the section, look away from the text and summarize the answer as much as possible in your own words (out loud is best). Write a few key words in your notes or in the margin of the text for later review. Go on to the next section of the text, repeating steps 2, 3 and 4.

Review: When you're ready to stop reading, do a quick review by looking over the main ideas you've just read to see how they fit together. Then test yourself to see if you can recall (out loud) the ideas from memory. Review again in a week or two

3. Learn To Write Effective Term-papers

At University, term papers are very important. Your professors assign them so that they can see how well you understand the material and how effectively you can discuss the pertinent issues. Your goal is to use your papers to convince your professor you deserve the mark you want

Prepare

Make sure you understand what the assignment requires you to do.

If you have a choice of topics, choose one that interests you.

If you have no choice and find you don't like the topic assigned to you, ask your professor if you can approach the topic from an angle that appeals to you.

Start your research early: schedule your time so that you have enough time for researching, composing, and revising.

Compose

Plan your paper: establish a thesis and select main ideas and supporting ideas.

Write a rough draft quickly, focusing on ideas and not worrying about grammar and spelling.

Set your paper aside for a while so that you can return to it with a fresh outlook.

Revise

Revise in response to any new ideas you may have, making sure your ideas are clear and well organized.

Ask a classmate, friend or family member to read your text to see if your ideas are clear to someone else.

Revise in light of the feedback you receive.

Finally, proofread your text for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation and so forth

4. Plan for Great Oral Presentations

If you are like most people, you feel anxious about making oral presentations. With a few strategies and a bit of practice, however, you can gain the confidence you need to make a great presentation

Before

Organize your talk with a few main points and use them as prompts.

Prepare an introduction (an anecdote, a question or some other device) that will immediately get your audience's attention.

Practice your talk in front of a mirror and/or before a few friends.

Time yourself to make sure you keep within the time limit.

Do not memorize or read your text.

During

Overcome nervousness by

-telling yourself it's okay to be nervous,

-taking a few deep breaths before you begin to speak,

-establishing eye contact with a friend or looking just over the heads of those in the back row.

Speak clearly and not too quickly.

Begin by telling your audience what your talk is about and identifying the main points.

Summarize your main points at the end of your talk.

After

Invite the audience to ask questions.

If you can't answer a question, don't bluff; tell the audience that you will find out.

Distribute handouts after, not before, your talk unless you want your audience to use them as guides

5. Use Smart Test-Taking Strategies

Exams can be stressful situations where you're being evaluated and have to perform under a time limit. The key to managing the stress and performing well is to be a smart test-taker

Learn as you go. Don't leave your studying until the night before the test. Spend time each week reviewing your class notes and readings. Try to connect the important ideas into themes or "a big picture." Then test yourself by trying to answer questions or do the problems the teacher might ask on this material.

Practice the exam activity before an exam. Be sure you know what you will have to DO on the exam: answer questions on content details, write essays, solve problems, apply theory to cases, etc. Then prepare for the exam by practising this activity so that you can do it confidently without referring to your notes or text book.

Use your time well on the exam. Before starting your exam, look over all the questions quickly. Do a "memory dump" by jotting down by each question key words, ideas, formulas, etc. that you'll need for the answer. As well, mark the questions that seem easiest for you. Make a time plan by allocating the same percentage of time to each question as its worth in marks.

Then, start with the easiest questions to build your confidence, and respect your time plan throughout to make sure that you have time to attempt every question

6. Manage Your Study Time

As a student at Concordia, your schedule is likely a hectic one. Besides attending classes, doing homework and studying for tests and exams, you might also be holding down a part-time job, participating in a team sport, and looking after an apartment. You need to manage your time very efficiently if you are to keep up with your studies and finish your assignments on time

Long Range View

Take a long range view of the semester so that you know when assignments and exams are due.

Set up a calendar for the semester, listing important due dates: readings, assignments, tests and so forth.

Week By Week

List everything you must do for each of your courses; include time for study, review, assignments and tests.

Establish your priorities and estimate the time you need for each activity.

Make a schedule for the week; include in it everything on your list.

Remember to...

Plan ahead.

Include extra time for major projects.

Break major tasks down into smaller ones.

Alternate between a difficult task and an easy one.

Schedule breaks.

Reward yourself when you've completed a task

7. Balance Your Life

Devoting all of your time to school work may sound like a sure fire way to succeed in your courses, but living only for school can actually lead to burn-out. Conversely, spending too much time on leisure or other activities can lead to major stress (or even failure) when exam time comes. Finding the proper balance between time for school and time for everything else is a crucial step in achieving success

1. Make a list of all of the roles you play in your life (student, friend, parent, worker, volunteer, athlete, etc.). Some roles will obviously demand more of your time than others. Determine how much time you're willing or able to devote to each role.

2. Strike a healthy balance allowing time for study, rest and play.

3. Schedule time to do things you enjoy.

4. Plan for exams and assignments well ahead of time so you won't be caught doing marathon study sessions and disrupting the balance.

5. Use time management strategies to organize your time

8. Set Career Goals

Setting career goals is a crucial step towards success. Career goals are the focus and the reason behind all the hard work you're doing now. When you don't have a sense of what you're moving towards, things can seem pretty pointless. Knowing how a particular assignment relates in the long run to your future career can be the motivation you need to actually do it

Ask yourself these questions to help you set your career goals:

Where do I want to be in 5-10 years time? What do I see myself doing (studying, working)?

How will my present studies take me there?

What else do I need to be doing now to get there (volunteer/part-time work)?

What obstacles might prevent me from achieving this goal?

What can I be doing to overcome these obstacles?

Do a self-assessment using the Career Computer Lab.

Meet with a counsellor or take a workshop to do some career planning.

Do some vocational testing if you're unsure of what major to be in. Do some research at the Career Resource Centre to see where your major can lead.

9. Deal With Personal Issues

Life has a way of handing us ups and downs when we least expect them. This means that sometimes your life is going to get in the way of your studies. It's important to realize and accept that there will be times when you are just not able to work or study because life issues are demanding more attention. If this happens to you, be ready to seek out resources to help you deal with the situation

Recognize when a situation needs to be addressed.

Deal with situations as they arise; don't let them drag on.

Don't fool yourself into believing you can handle everything.

Use the resources available to you:

Talk to a trusted friend or relative.

Talk to your doctor, or make an appointment at Health Services.

Make sure your academic standing doesn't suffer:

Talk to your professors for possible extensions.

Consider dropping courses to relieve your workload.

Determine if you are eligible for medical exemptions.

If...

10. Know the System

Success at university is more than just doing well in classes; it's knowing how to work with the system. There are things that you need to know that you won't necessarily be told. And with regards to any university regulations, ignorance is not bliss! So be prepared to ask questions and dig a little to find out the information
