The globally acclaimed professor of anatomy entered the class room for his first session. All the students were eagerly waiting for this. All of them were silently watching and eagerly waiting for his lecture.
He said, "Today we will learn two important but fundamental things to be a good medical professional. But this will be a demonstration and no lecture."
He invited his lab assistant to bring in a beaker with some crazy liquid inside. He said to the students that one should not feel dirty or clumsy to work with patients in state. He said that the beaker contained all possible secretions of human body, like blood , puss, urine, mucus, saliva, ..... "Now, to ensure that you all will learn to accommodate and work in any patient, you will all repeat what I am going to do! He dipped his finger in the bowl and then placed it in his mouth. He advised each student to repeat what he did. With all the clumsy and nauseating feeling they all repeated.
When the last one finished doing it, he said, "I am glad that you all learnt one of the lessons successfully but I am sad all of you failed in learning the second lesson. It was observation. None of you noticed that I put the index finger into the liquid and my ring finger into the mouth' Unless you have keen observation you cannot be good doctor!"
(Let us believe that the beaker did not contain what the professor claimed. Otherwise the discussions will go out of track!)
But observation is a most important skill required for any profession.
