I think Appreciation and Validation should be separate.
Also Appreciation can be of two categories like one for the Knowledge appreciation and other for General Appreciation (for linking the discussion to original topic of discussion, for fun, for raising right query etc.)
Validation from experienced and senior members of CiteHr can be shown separately.

In continuation of above discussion what I think that a member appreciate when he/she download the attachment or the answer given by the other member is helpful to him/her.
I refer Citehr when I need suggestion or guidance.while searching if I find the attachement suitable for me or the answer which gives me guidance I immediatly appreciate that means I thank the member for helping me without any hassle.
