Dear Bobby Bob,

Are you talking about the issue of the "Offer Letter" or the "Appointment Letter"? While the former is issued once the candidate is selected to fill the vacant position, the latter is issued once the candidate joins and becomes an employee of the company.

The second difference is that an offer letter is issued to establish the employer-employee relationship in future whereas the appointment letter is issued to endorse this relationship and specify the exact terms and conditions of the employment. One of the important terms of employment is specifying the notice period when the employee submits the letter of resignation.

However, your query is about the inclusion of the clause of the notice period in the offer letter itself. This is unheard of. To tell a person about the conditions of separation from the company even before he/she joins the company is unwanted futuristic thinking. Better to refrain from it!

Thanks,
