I would like to know what are things to be considered in Safety Committee Meeting? What are the things not to be considered while conducting safety committee meeting?

Dear member,

While raising a query, the members are expected to give adequate information like the nature of their industry, their designation and the context of asking the query. Most of the queries are short and what follows thereafter is guesswork by other senior members.

Anyway, notwithstanding the shortness of your query, let me give my two cents.

a) As the meeting starts, read out the details of the meeting held last time. Read out when it was conducted, where conducted, who were the attendees etc.
b) Thereafter, read out the points discussed in the last meeting. After each meeting, the person who presides over the meeting should clearly say whether the action on the point is completed or still pending. If pending, then why it is pending and when the action will be completed.
c) Thereafter, discuss the following points:

i) The number of accidents reported since the last meeting
ii) The number of safety incidents reported since the last meeting
iii) The number of near-misses reported since the last meeting
iv) Since the last meeting was conducted, did any government authority visit the company premises, and if yes, then were there any observations?
v) Since the last meeting was conducted, was there safety inspection by the customer, and if yes, then were there any observations?
vi) When did the Safety Officer conduct the last safety audit and were there any observations? If yes, then what is the status of the observation?
vii) Are there any issues related to Pollution Control Board (PCB)?
viii) Are there any changes in the statutory provisions related to safety?
ix) Is the inventory of the PPE and other safety items sufficiently available? Is any shortage foreseen in the near future?
x) Was the fire and safety drill conducted since the last meeting and if yes, then what were the observations?
xi) Since the last meeting, was an electrical and fire audit conducted? If yes, then who conducted it, and what were the observations?
xiii) Based on the points discussed above, is there any need to incorporate changes in the safety training and if yes, then what changes?
xiv) Any other points

The aim of the safety meeting should be to build a culture of safety. If it is conducted perfunctorily, it could defeat its purpose.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
