First step will be to meet all HOD, other staff of hr and if small company the GM etc. Then take stock of work of HR and get moving.Be polite,clear and open in your way of interaction.

Any new HR in an organisation, the first step is to make his presence / dent in the organisational culture / system / procedure towards organisation goal, would be appreciated, and he can establish a recognition. Failing which he may not be in a position to continue.
