Hi everyone,
I wanted to ask 1 question regarding recruitment. In the interview they were asked me what is the reason for many companies generally prefer acquiring new candidate in the month of October or march-April?
I have answered as it will help to performance appraisal procedure and calculation of incentives and increments for new joiner if he joined in oct. or April.
But I want to know is this correct answer? And what is the correct answer to this question? Because I am totally fresher.

Hello Radhika,
Your answer is on the right track but on the reverse side.
Usually all the companies are doing their appraisals in the months of march and september. It makes the negotiation with the other organisations for salary hike very easy for those who appears for the interview in some other organisation.
I.e. if an employee is serving his present job at 10,000/- pm and he is appraised by 20% means he can negotiate to the other company saying his curren salary is 12,000/-.
Nothing else....

There can not be any ideal answer for any interview unless its a technical question...
Usually a person is not asked why they are leaving in so and so month right after their appraisal...
they are asked why do they want to leave the previious job???
One can simply say for a better prospect but it is now a days like avoiding the question... so if one has really performed well in their previous employment than he /she can probably say that the or the appriasal was not as per the mark or as per the words of the management and bla bla bla....
One more thing not only this but all the general answers are judged according to the mood of an interviewee so no need to prepare the answers. Rather than that one can work on how to judge the mentality and nature of the interviewee so that you can easily conveince him/her.

Hi !
My views:
Normally organisations provide increments effective from 1st April of every year. Now cut off date for considering an employee eligible for increment is 30th Sep. of previous year. i.e. those who have joined on or before 30th Sep 2007 will be considered for increments effective from 1st April 2008. Those who have joined 1st October onwards will be eligible for increment in 2009.
What we do in such cases is justify both the parties. Suppose, average increment is 12 %, we add 6 % in our offer as support. This helps us in negotiating and we can justify our stand regarding match with existing employees.

Hi,
In addition to the above replies which are very relevent, Iwould like to say that candidates are hired during the month of October coz in Indian scenario the bonus is paid during September or October and the employees dont want to miss that if he/she is eligible for bonus. So if the employee is willing to leave his/her present job he collects the bonus amount then shifts the job.
Answer is based on employee feedback.

Hi Sweeteelekha !
Actually I would like to add to your comment that the payment of Bonus is an mendatory payment. It has to be paid irrespective of employee's date of leaving. Yes true that it is paid withing 6 months of end of financial year which is 30th Sep., and coincides with Diwali on most occassions, but payment of bonus is to be done to those employees also who leave employment before declaration and disbursement of bonus.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Radhika,
I would like to add one more point saying that for the companies having the appraisals during the march and sep will also help them to have get adjusted to the ESI half year periods which is same as the companies appraisal period.
Friends i would like to have your views on this, correct me if i am wrong...........
