- How many people are employed with the said employer?
- Is that you or all facing the similiar issue from the company?
- Why were you working for 3 months hence after no deliberate payment for couple of months consecutively (Has no one alarmed/ raised such unjust made)?
- Have you been given appointment letter at the time of joining?
- Any Bank a/c given in the name of the company?
- [he has suffered some losses] Business trouncing takes place every where... However, if your employer is still be able to run business without closureof the company, he has tendency to make F&F to the employees by releiving them further.

There are lot of such entrepreneurs who just opens the shop and start thinking about how to do business ?/ Unless there is sustained business development activity, needless to say, the business will be on the decline. As the owner, he should always be focussed on enhancing the business activities all the time. Once the focus is lost, the business will also nose-dive. My advice to entrepreneurs is always to have two or three connected or related business operations so that revenue will be coming from one or two of the operations to sustain survival !
Now coming to your issue, when your owner is not sure when he will be able to pay you, please make arrangements for getting an alternate job, in an established company, instead of an one-man show. Leave the present employer in an nice or amicable manner so that he responds to you at a later date for following up for your payments. Do not fight and leave. That is my suggestion. Leave at once after landing in a new job.
Best wishes

I feel sorry for your plight.
Normally, when we join any job, we dont put conditions or expect any formalities such as appointment letters or any documentation, in our desperation. Small time operators, do not even know what is an appointment letter. It will be like working for a Kirana merchant or Lala ka dukhan !
Problems arise when the first salary is missed or delayed. Unless there is steady flow of business and revenue out of such business, employer's coffers will remain empty.
No use just opening a business, unless there is strong business sense and sustained business development and growth. Further, there should be two or three related businesses going on simultaneously so that revenue flow into the company can take place, even if there is fluctuation in business due to various reasons.
In your situation, you people can ask your employer nicely how consistent his payments are going to be in future. Explain your problems and make him understand the ground realities. If he is evasive and avoiding you, better to simultaneously look for another job and move over.
Best wishes
