Understanding Salary Deduction in PIP from Offer Letter & Employee Handbook - CiteHR

Asking a question on behalf of one of my Sales department colleagues: If the offer letter/appointment letter mentions that if you are in a PIP with no improvement, then the salary will be deducted by 50% due to non-performance and termination will be immediate. Is this valid if the employee had signed the document? Can the company deduct 50% as clearly stated in their document?
