As per the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, if the company runs factories in different states, the controlling authority would be the one appointed by the respective state in respect of such factories. If the company has other establishments in more than one state and any major port, mine, oil field, or railway anywhere, then the controlling authority would be the one appointed by the Central Government.
