Yes, it can be.
That all depend upon how the management accept the scenario. Generally, companies avoid to do so.
If the nature of employment is different than the consultancy nature, than it can be acceptable. But both (Company and the individual) need to consider some points.
The establishment need to deduct separate TDS for both cases as applicable in the Law. Company should sign an agreement wherein undertaking must be taken that as an employee he will not use his power/link/data etc to benefit the consultancy scope. In case he found guilty than disciplinary action will be taken.
The individual need to include his both incomes while filling ITR. If the gross income increase over and above the Tax Deducted slab, than he has to deposit balance Income Tax.
