Hi Friends,
My Wife is running in 3rd trimester. She is working for IT company from last 1.5 year. One month before she officially informed her manager and HRs regarding 6 Month maternity leave for which there was no reply from either end.
Now recently she learnt that her company is planning to terminate her. I need your valuable suggestions as what should be the appropriate step in this case.

Termination will be a clear violation of law.
Ask her to visit the HR department and enquire and follow up the visit with a letter in writing about her pregnancy and also refer to earlier email of hers on the subject.
Any way what is the source of information of termination plan?

Dear Anonymous,
If the Company where your wife is employed has sane & good HR then they will not do it. If they do it, they will come directly under the Radar of MB Act which prevents such actions.
Has your wife already proceeded on leave or she is still attending office?
If at all such happening is expected then please inform the the labour Commissioner of the area or whoever is the authority in this behalf.
Please do not accept any such communication in the hard copy form, read it and return it but do not acknowledge it if they stoop to such a low level.
Warm Regards

It may be difficult to take action at this stage other than follow up on the leave applied and get response from the HR. Do not go by hearsay, howsoever true it maybe. As of now you do not have any evidence to show that the company is going to terminate your wife and as she has already applied for the leave a month earlier, the best way forward for now is to follow up on the same and see that they respond to it. Let us hope nothing untoward takes place and all those hearsay were strong rumours and nothing else. Good luck, do not jump into conclusions at this stage and stay put.

Dear colleague,
As pointed out , it would be premature to proceed on the basis of termination which has not happened. Disregard it at this stage, and follow the procedure laid down regarding applying for ML etc and wait and watch. Revert to this forum for advice if termination takes place which is bound to be illegal.
