Dear Friends,

Let me introduce myself first, I completed B.Tech(IT) in 2011 and worked for an online shopping company for 1.5years as Business Analyst. In 2013, I pursued MBA from Middlesex University in London. I couldn't extend my stay in London as we have restrictions in Visa. Now I am back in India hunting job with good pay. I am searching job in Business Analyst or HR in any specialization. As I did my MBA in London, I myself have a huge debt which I have to pay in 5 years time to State bank of India. I couldn't find any employers in India paying in Lakhs to repay my Loan amount.

So, I wish to go to Singapore or Dubai were I will be able to manage my monetary needs. As I have very few years of experience, I really hesitate to tap those market now. Hence I decided to work in India for another couple of years and then move to those countries and I am 25 years old as well.

Currently I have an offer with Standard Charted - Scope International as Senior Officer in HR Shared Services and their pay is not that sufficient for me which is 3Lac per annum. I will be handling the 'Benefits' of their bank employees in Singapore & Dubai initially.

I would request you to guide me whether can I take this offer? Will it be useful to take up my career in Middle East and moreover if I join and gain experience, will I be able to get good pay in future company to pay back my Loan?Will it be my career which is challenging and enjoying? where will I reach in coming years?

Dear Pradeep,
The switch shouldn't take you long . However, you can apply for the HR processes at JP Morgan, ADP and other companies that run large business units.
The roles are different from what Generalist HR might be , in terms of application and geographies . At HRSS, you will gain a deep understanding of HR process, Laws and technologies used mostly in US.
You may take a long term view and switch to the Generalist HR once you have gained enough experience. This will also save you from starting your career as a recruiter, which most of the HRs are forced to do.
Recruitment helps in getting placed easily as the jobs are plenty. But the switch is equally difficult.
Hence, I echo U.K Mitra and suggest you to take this role for now. Later you can join a smaller firm as a generalist HR and proceed further in your career.

I do not understand why you are looking for low paying HR jobs when you have experience and skills that will directly get you much higher paying jobs.
You have don't B Tech, which may not be as popular as BE but still recognised as important degree for software development jobs. In addition you have 18 months experience as business analyst in a portal. Your Mba will be the icing on the cake.
Do you know how many new positions are being created at just a single company like flipkart ? Add with that the massive growth other ecommerce companies are facing and the scramble for talent. Future just announced their ecommerce play. They will add 150 developers. Flipkart is recruiting about 1200. Where is the trained talent ?
Do apply there and check.
Call their HR and you will get the info you want.

Thanks for your great inputs, I would think in that way from now.
I need some more clarification as I have gained only 18 months experience as a business Analyst, many firms like flipkart, Amazon looking for 2+ years experience and moreover the company which I worked is a small concern where they used to pay be in cash. Further, my MBA in the UK is not that recognized in India. Many employers says that its just one year MBA in London. Even though I have done B.Tech in IT, I don't have much exposure and experience in IT. So I concluded and made my interest towards Human Resource. I am good a Manager and have quite good leadership qualities.
Please suggest me a career to move ahead and I am interested in any management profile which is challenging& learning and from there I would move abroad(Singapore or Dubai).

Doing MBA in uk or usa to work in india is, generally a waste of money.
No one is giving credence to what you have done there and no one would bother to pay a premium for it. In most cases, it adds little value.
However, with other things being equal, having MBA degree gives you an edge where the qualification and experience is otherwise equal.
While firms may ask for 2 years for some posts, they also have positions at lower levels. In any case, with the scramble for talent, people are willing to compromise on their exact requirements if you are otherwise able to convince them of your abilities.
If you have decided you want to follow the Mba way to go abroad, then you have no option but to follow the path you have already chosen and follow it
