Hello Seniors, I hope everybody are enjoying the vacations.....

I have recently joined as a HR in a small start-up company. I have a different experience for the past 5 years which is not related to the present Job.

My concern is, i have completed my MBA in HR through distance mode and i have decided to start my career as a Hr and in prior i decided to join some HR training institutes where i can grab the knowledge and also guidance but in the mean time i have got 2 opportunities as a Hr recruiter(target Based) for UK based consultancy and another one is also as a Hr, need to look in & all which is of only 6-7 members where i don't any superior to guide me except my MD.

So i have opted the 2nd option and joined in a start up company before i join in a training institute.

In starting days i have interacted with the employees and informed their requirements to M.D and i have done by making joining forms, appointment letters, offer letters, leave policy terms, holiday tracker, pay slip structure by including and marking the attendance but in return i didn't receive any appreciation or a confirmation mail to go ahead with the norms and all.

I have no work now and then.... if i ask my MD also. He does not have any thing in his mind what to assign or not.Can you plz guide me... to create work for myself and that would be beneficial to me and management....

Hi ,
This is just a start for you so i would suggest you to clear all your norms of HR. Select any topic in a day and grab knowledge from citehr, google and many more. A long way to go. I can understand that employee strength is very less in your organisation so you have not enough work to do. You can make policies, circular in your own way. HR is a vast process like recruitment, hr polices, payroll, statutory compliance , performance appraisal, traning & development and So on. And it will take a long time to cover all this. So you are advised to get this things done and be go for some other job.

HI

As many suggested, HR is a vast area and there are lots and lots could be implemented. How come a HR says he doesnt have anything to do nor blank then and there. First of all know your industry and fo a need analysis and derive a schedule for you. You will get plenty of knowledge while doing it alone, any mistake is also fine, go thru the process. Before that have a budget approved for HR expense and give your best. Try to set up policies and guidelines for your company and figure out a person who could help you out. If you manage to do a bit there, yes the knowledge what you acquired will be with you forever.

In a start up company, there are wide scope of dealing with government officials, policy making, system implementation, even employee relations and many more. So get to all the functions of HR and try to implement one by one. Am sure 24 hrs will be enough for you and you will have the highest satisfaction. If you quit, same circumstance will arise anytime, so you have taken it up, do something and move out of the company.

As your query, this is a good time to you for learning many things and implement in your ogzn. yes. you are the only master in your organization. so no worries. you can go with framing HR Policies and try to implement it. That makes you master in leadership skill.
Very important task is forming system in your area. just make a deep study of your company process and at all with documentation (which helps you to future proceed) and make approve it from your boss. These type of activities make you busy and improve you as a master. just try it. you can win in your own area.
