letter of intent or offer letter shows intention of candidate to join an organisation or not whereas appointment letter is confirmation of joining on particular date, with designation and package as an employee or you can say one of the staff member, who gets an appointment letter who has to adhere rules and regulations of the company from the date of joining i.e. on receipt of the appointment letter from organisation. so offer letter is document whereas appointment letter is contract between employer and employee
