A very nice quote, Murlidhar! Indeed, it is the poetic expression of the logic of living for - to me- life is not a noun but a verb hence I've used the word 'living' instead of 'life'. We don't know where we came from.From the unknown cosmos? From the five elements known to us? From the conjuring tricks of the invisible conjuror, if any?- we don't know any precise answer both to the origin and the end as well. That is why Osho classified the phenomenon of knowledge into three - the known, the unknown and the unknowable! Adhi Sankara termed the unknowable as "Maya". Any way, Yes, the ring of life is unknowable though we are already in it.Sometimes in every one's bout the opponent is invisible in the ring and that's why there happens fighting within our own selves - no rule of exception whether you are a philosopher or just a simpleton. Indulgence in phylosophical quest is the impact of the atavistic urge in us to decipher the unknowable.The author of the verse has effectively given the essence of living into a tiny capsule wrapping up with a beautiful poetic cover and hence deserves heartiest appreciation. We, (specially those without a rich and loving parent, or with strangely good luck), are already within such a ring. We do not need to enter it, we are born inside it. Willing or unwilling, the only option is to accept it! And get beaten, bruised, dragged, cheated, humiliated, wasted or lose. As we grow in age, we come to know more about it, and more used to it. With a thousand sigh, or thousand secret oaths, we mostly fail to escape to betterment.
We know how the boxer feels and so can relate. That's why we feel elated, exited, when he wins, or when he falls!
This life, with it's rock hard cruelty, is a "boxing ring" itself!
