Hi all,

I'm an MBA in HR and have been working in a placement company for the last 9 months. However, I am interested in transitioning to HR roles in banking. Please suggest what steps I should take as in my current role, we are primarily involved in recruitment activities only. I would like to gain experience in all HR functions such as performance appraisal, salary processing, payroll management, HRIS, grievance handling, etc.

Thanks, Rashmi

Good question from an HR executive. For bank jobs in the private and public sector, the induction methods differ. Please check with private commercial banks to learn about their processes, and for public sector banks, you may have to follow their standard procedures.

Thank you.

Hi Rashmi,

Are you sure that you strictly want to move into banking only? If so, Umalme has proposed a solution for you. But if not, then you will have many options. You can try for a company job in any sector because in one way or another, the HR functioning procedure is similar. For easy and quick growth, BPOs are a good option.

Moreover, now that you have gained this much experience, you can easily pursue it. However, it is advisable to stay for three more months.

All the best,

Hi Deepali,

You are quite right, for I should stay 3 months more with the current organization, but I feel like my all skills are not getting utilized. That makes me a little indifferent or irritated. Could you please suggest something for how I can get a job in banks? I am looking for more suggestions.

Thanks,
Rashmi

Hi Rashmi,

I would say if you've been there for 9 months, why not stay for three more if it is good for you in the near future.

For banking, you can contact consultancies as I have seen that most of the banks hire through consultancies. And yes, mostly they ask for at least 1 year of experience.

Dear Ms. Rashmi,

This is Anantha here, working as an HR Executive in one of the multinational companies. I would suggest that you proceed with the recruitment of candidates for the banking sector in the immediate future, as this would greatly benefit your experience. I also agree with Ms. Deepali's suggestion that staying for an additional 3 months would provide you with a better platform to advance in your career.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Anantha

Dear Anantha,

I really appreciate your suggestion, but we are currently focusing on IT and FMCG companies. However, I am involved in handling accounts and finance recruitments for those companies. Do you think this experience would be beneficial for me?

Thanks

Hi Rashmi,

Anantha has given a great solution. If you recruit for finance, banking, and insurance, it will be a positive move for you. And if you are doing it, it's surely going to help you a lot.
