Dear readers,
Pilferage is found in some offices which is a headache for all. Usual items which are stolen in our offices/factories are: 1. Stationary 2. Printer cartdriges, 3. Mobile Phones 4. Portable tools viz. testers, screw drivers etc. Though these items are petty in value, our valuable man-hour is unnecessarily wasted in searching for or replacing them. Readers give us solution how to prevent this menace of pilferage.

actually it depends on company to company and the status of the person the level of the person, i would say not every office employee is honest, many people misuse office facilities but stealing is taking it to the next level.
Printing personal documents in office is understood and allowed , but stealing cartridge is serious, again mobile phones, portable tools are the responsibility of the individual employee and he is to be blamed for it. Educate the staff about it and install dummy cameras or 1 original for 4 dummy cameras.

Dear Chandrasekaran,
This is in addition to what Ravi has said.
Pilferage of office items is common problem the world over. However, it bogs down to personal values as well.
You need to teach values, personal as well as organisational values to your employees. Find out how much amount of revenue was lost due to the pilferage.
Secondly, pilferage also shows the economic, social and cultural background of the employees. A person who wants to grow one's career will never think of becoming kleptomaniac.
Start random security checks. If any one is found carrying office item without authorisation, conduct enquiry and terminate his/her services. This will serve message to one and all. But before you start these random security checks, please issue circular to all the employees.
During my HR days, my VP (ops) had terminated services of young employee because she had carried four lead pencils with her. She was caught in the security check my female security guard.
Ok...
