Your Provident Fund (PF) account balance now available online

Your Provident Fund (PF) account balance now available online

Your PF account details including the latest account balance can now be checked online. Read on for more details.

A large chunk of your salary gets deducted every month in the form of Provident Fund (PF). It is definitely money well invested, but it can get quite difficult to know exactly how much you have in your PF account.

The PF office is supposed to give a statement of your PF account to your employer every year, and your finance / accounts department is supposed to hand that over to you. But many employees never get this yearly statement.

So, how can you find your PF account balance?

Provident Fund (PF) Details Online

Starting 1st July 2011, the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has put provident fund (PF) account details online. This means that now you can instantly know your PF account balance!

You can get your PF account details at: EPFO <link updated to site home>

This facility has started from Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Karnal and Bangalore, and is being rapidly extended to 120 more cities.

How can you know the PF balance - the procedure

The PF account details can be obtained online at EPFO <link updated to site home>

You would need to submit your PF account number and your mobile number to get the details. You would also need to select the EPFO office where your account is maintained.

On providing these details, your PF details would be delivered to your mobile through an SMS.

There is no charge for this service - it is completely free.

Have your PF money in a private trust?

Some companies run their own PF trusts - the companies deposit your PF money with these trusts for management instead of depositing it with the EPFO.

If you work for such a company, can you see your PF account details online?

Well, there is good news for you - the EPFO has asked such private PF trusts to also post the account details online! This is expected to be done by the end of July 2011.

Know the status of your claims online

The EPFO has also launched the facility to find out the status of your claim online.

You need to visit EPFO <link updated to site home> , select the EPFO office and enter your PF account number, and you can find the status of your claim!

There is no charge for this service - it is completely free.

I have joined a private company on 1st May 2011. We are Delhi registered company. I got my PF number from the employer in the month of July. PF was deducted from my salary right from the month of May. I checked my PF online.
The message appeared on PF site was "Invalid Member_id / Data not updated against this PF Number. **Data updated till 30-06-2011 12:28:02"
Now as I have joined in the month of May, my data should have been updated before 30th June. Then why such an error?
Also, our other employees who checked their PF balance online, got a message with very less amount in their PF account and the message was further read as balance is updated till 2009 only!!!
Have anybody else also experienced the same?
