Dear Tanmoy
Please go through this write up carefully and in addition to you it will also help others suffering from myopia. There are many myths about home made remedies and their effects on our eyes and very few of those myths are medically proven correct.
Let us understand about vision.
Our eyes are having Cornea outer black colour portion ( which is not black but very transparent) capable of providing maximum of visual power in our eyes. It contributes roughly +40Diopter of power. Just behind cornea lies Iris which acts as a shutter of camera and allows required amount of light to enter the inside of eye ball. behind the iris lies lens which is soft crystalline lens and contributes roughly +20 diopter of power The last structure of eye which helps in vision is retina which receives the images and sends them to brain through optic nerve.
There are two kind of vision. Distant vision ( DV) and Near Vision ( NV).
Hypermetropia ( Far sightedness) or Myopia ( Short sightedness) both are part of distance vision. Near Vision is required only for reading at a distance of 30 cms or little more.
Im Myopia or shortsightedness a person is not able to read at the black board properly and sometimes comfortable if sitting on the front benches. it can be assumed as Myopia occurs because there is more power in eye hence we need to reduce it by prescribing minus power glasses.
Power in the eye can be more due to following reasons-
Total diameter called axial length of eye ball is more hence image of an object is not falling on retina but before retina.
Power of cornea is less( It is called steeper cornea or corneal diameter is less hence it is exerting more converging power and thus image is formed before retina.
Difficulty in distance vision can disturb the near vision also otherwise a person having correct distance vision needs no extra power for reading but will require only after attaining age of 35 years or more.
For reading we need to have more power in our eyes and in the young age lens in the eye is capable of adjusting this power automatically just like autofocussing hence no power is required for reading in young age. But as the age advances the ability of lens to increase or decrease the power weakens because lens becomes harder on ageing and thus people needs to wear reading glasses after 35+ years of age this condition is called presbyopia.
A person myopic by +2 D power generally reads without glasses at the age of 50.
High degree of myopia sometimes triggers retinal detachment hence children having high myopia should undergo regular eye check ups for any abnormal increase in power.
Myopics are generally comfortable at reading or working on computer but gets headache if in the class room or watching TV.
Eye relaxation exercise are beneficial and they can be done by looking at distant object for 20 seconds followed by looking at near object for twenty seconds and walking twenty steps. It can be repeated 4-5 times.
Please give a periodic break to your eyes from computer screen for few minutes.
Diets rich in vitamin A will not decrease the number of glasses prescribed but will surely help in getting it increased.
Food rich in Vitamin A are Milk, Butter, Carrots, Cabbage and other green vegetables. Please do consume green veg and butter can be included provided person is following exercise regimen.
While working on computer eyes can also be relaxed by closing eyes and keeping both hands over eye lids after rubbing them.
Triphala( three fruits) in an ayurvedic prescription containing Amla, Harad, and Bahera. Please do not stretch urself in searching these herbs since Triphala powder is available in almost all medicine shops. Prefer to buy of good brand and recently manufactured packet.
Triphala ( a tea spoonful) powder can be soaked in a glass of water over night and in the morning gently strain this water and eyes can be washed with it. Triphala is also good if taken orally ( by mouth).
Important- These therapies can not guarantee reversal of power but can surely slow the increase. Regular eye checks is a must for those wearing over -3.0 d glasses from early age since such cases it may be due to steeper cornea or may be due to more axial length of eye and in such cases power in the eye usually increases upto 20-25 years of age and may be further complication can occur. Vitamin A supplements are available over the counter prescription and can be taken if advised by Ophthalmologists.
I hope it will help you.
