Hi Forum,
Am Deepa working for an HR comp-bangalore, I have a doubt on Wrokmen compensation, is that only an employer has to contribute against premium for workmencompensation or even employee can also contribute partially...?
say for ex: if the premium against workmen compensation would be Rs.120/- and if the employer is willing to pay only Rs.90/- then the balance amt of Rs.30/- can be paid (like PF,ESI)...?
Pls help me on this as i need to answer to the employee..
Thanks,
Deepa.

Dear Deepa,

This is to inform you that under The Employees Compensation Act, 1923 an employee who is eligible to receive compensation from the employer under this Act is not to contribute any thing under this Act. If you are taking any policy from any of the insurance company then in that case you are liable to pay whole premium / contribution of your own. In my opinion there is no compulsion to have this policy under this Act. If you do not want to have WC policy then in that case you are to give compensation to the employee under this Act.
Opinion/comments submitted as requested.
