Dear Friends

Let me tell you first the steps involved in PMS Process in our organization,

1. Performance Agreement is signed of after Employee and Manager discuss employer's key activities in relation to the business plan.

2. Mid Year Review - The manager reviews the employee's progress to date; provides feedback to employees about performance and gives his / her performance rating.

3. Calibration Meeting - The Executive Team (Consits of All HOD's and MD, CEO) moderates the ratings to ensure that a consistent standard of rating is followed across the company. The rating is communicated to the employee after the meeting.

4. Full Year Appraisal

5. Calibration Meeting

6. Final rating is communicated to employee

The role oF HR here is more of Faciliatation and coaching the Staff about the PMS to run smoothly and effectively.

Now all I want to know is that , Is facilitation and coaching alone is the role of HR or what is the actual role and responsibilies of HR in respect to PMS. Could you please someone elaborate more on this.

Well in our organisation the role of HR in PMS is much more then just facilitating and coaching.The core aim is to make the PMS system as transparent and well understood by employees.Secondly, the appraisal forum is also utilised to build on improvement and training needs, a report of which is finally compiled by us and forwarded to the seniors of the team and the training team, this also helps training to budget for their needs.Thirdly at the completion of every appraisal the final documentation comes to the HR team , who then search for some quality data or qualitatives so as to highlight any important details of the appraisal, then formulating a report which is sent to the group head.These qualitatives help highlight many standard occurences within the team and in the bargain help the group head to bring in required solutions and plan for the coming year.

Thanks for your reply also understood how HR can play a major role in PMS. Let me also know does HR Validates the rating in your organization or the Management team validates the rating.

Actually the number of employees in our company are huge hence HR maynot be involved in deriving every single person's ratings.This is done by the group head along with his immediate team leaders.But yes HR plays a monitoring role in being around for all the meetings.HR is more involved in cases where people are eligible for a promotion and for people who have shown dissatisfaction with the ratings given to them.
