Dear All,
I have to submit FEW suggestions tomorrow to the chairman on how to get workers listen and obey the instructions given by seniors. I am qorking at production field, and workers throw waste on floor and manytimes we give them warning, then penalities but most of them repeat doing this.
I would like to know if anyone is having an idea or suggestion to help me on this?
I came with this:
- To interfere supervisors in this and make them responsiable before workers.
- To make ONE person to be responsiable for this job.
Please help me

Dear,
you should get the said subject matter done by the bottom line supervisor, shift incharge...
It is the supervisor's responsibility to take care of all those things which is mentioned by you.....

Dear Fatoma
Make the workers aware of cleanliness how it would benefit them and and also Your organization i.e educate them about disposal of waste at the right place and secondly recognize worker who maintains cleanliness and tag him as "Mr Clean". I hopeof some positive gesture from worker

Dear All,
hank God the discussion has been delayed one day. It will be tomorrow.
Dear Secretrvm:
yes, I will say that, as a matter of fact I have to be specific when talking to the management specialy the chairman. But, mentioning money will not solve the problem, we have to get practical solutions and ideas. Thank you for your comment.
Dear Arshi:
Your first point about making them aware is correct and should be done also correctly .. I agree with you. This second idea is also very good, its like making a competition and evaluate winners. Thanks a lot.
Thank you all for your reply and waiting for more if you have.

Is it just waste cloth / trash or process wasre or both?

(1)Undertake a study to find out the time / man-hours taken to clean the area for a 24 hour period. Calculate the cost involved (include the process waste cost if required).Project the loss incurred annually due to cleaning operations. Impress upon the workmen that they are not throwing waste but money, which erodes the bottom-line.

(2) Poor house keeping in shop-floor is a potential cause for accidents. Try to find out the case-studies from internet and show such video to workmen.

(3) Try to install surveillance cameras in shop-floor. This act itself will have some effects. Spread the message that action will be taken against waste throwing employees.

(4) If there is a labour union, call the leaders and talk to them.

The real root cause may be they want show their off their grievance, go to the root-cause.

This issue does not have an instant solution. Rushing thro' may not lead to a permanent solution.

Dear Fatma,
what you want to do is not an easy job i.e. handling worker. What you have to do is just search along them.
I quote you a small story,
In a school there was a teacher who was perturbed b'coz of notorious behaviour of her students. In order to bring discipline in her class, she thought of an idea. It was to make the most notorious student (the reason for all indiciplinary behaviour) as the head of the class and to look for all the indiscilinary acts in the class.
And, eventually the things happened as was expected.
The reason for all disturbance was the head of the class and and the notorious acts came to a halt. and class became the most discipline class in the school.
Now you will may understand what i want to say from this story, USE IT AND IMPLEMENT IT.

Hey Fatoma,
I hope there is shift incharge in every shift.........so u can make the shift supervisor responsible for the cleanliness...........coz supervisor nly wrk is 2 luk aftr d process n help in case of ny pblm......so rest of the time he can chck all dis...........n make a fine statemnt for the supervisor if things wl nt get followed..........
secondly u tell the machine opertor that the area where he is wrkng is his responsibility 2 clean...if any dust or waste vl b found there, then he have to clean it by himself...........n while changing d shift tell the person that before taking handover he should ensure that the place is clean so that the other person should not get the waste done by other.
Third u can give appreciation letter 2 d person who keeps his area clean in front of all other worker and also tell the name of the person who is not focussing on cleanliness.
Thanks

Yes that idea is very good. when they SEE by themselves is better than only hearing. I agree with this point. We already have cameras, and all of them know that punishment will be taken against those who will not obey :S.
