Dear All
We would like to implement Safe Ascending/Descending Devices for ensuring a full proof arragement while lowering workers for doing inspection work of the external silo walls and painting/inspection work of the external chimney walls, etc.
Earlier we are doing such works by using winch machine and man basket arragement. But this arragement not having a secondary means of protection. If the winch or even a kuppi fails, then the entire arragement can fails converting itno major accident.
Hence we need a full proof system for such works. I hope you got our specific requirement.
Please suggest the best and safest methode available in market as on today. If know any manufactores address please post the same too.
I need this to put proposal in front of the management.
Looking forward to hear from all of you and hope to get a perfect solution from the forum to this practical problem.

dear dipil,
currently we are using movable adjustable ladders(telescopic ladders), which suffice our usage & we have monkey ladders to reach the top of the chimney (some around 35 m)
kindly provide me the details of height and the areas to be used.
I'm not having sufficient answer for you now. how ever, I can takeup the same with the vendor who supplied us the fall arrestors and try to get a solution for the same, as they may be having different contacts.
thanks & regards.

Thanks for your interest shown in the topic... I am very sorry to say I not get time today to catch the photos... I will upload the photos soon...
Let me give you some more data which you ask...The height of the chimney is 80 meter and the height of the silo is of 76m... This is one time work as on now... We have to inspect the external walls and wherever required repairing work to be done... This work needs minimum three persons... Present working culture I already explained, that we are using winch and man basket arrangement... We need something which can be a full proof system...
@KV Sundaran
Thanks for your concern... I hope the above data can be sufficient for you to help me... If anything specific you need further please let me know...
The ladder which you spells out will not solve and help me in this situation...
Hope to come to a best output from the forum discussions...

Dear Dipil,
Have you got a crane with the required boom length to reach the height ? If you have; the best method is to use crane suspended manbasket.
A man lift can be used to reach a height of around 30 meter only where as a crane can reach far more than your required height. There may be even rental companies for you to hire a crane. Man basket is to be made to specification.

Dear Dipil.
There are only two methods to go up that height and do the job around a chimney - either use a crane suspended man basket or put up suitable scaffold.
Around metal silos you may be able to put up tank builders bracket scaffolds economically. In this case still you have to use mechanical access/egress.
Winch – will it help you to move around the chimney or silo? The answer is “No” !
If it is for window cleaning or building maintenance where the terrace is available to fix manufactured scaffold hanging on wire ropes absolutely there is no problem. You can have very many types of equipment. In your case you have no other way.
Procurement department will be having catalogue of all manufacturers and suppliers of every type of equipment. It will be easy to find it from that.
Considering the life as precious sparing the crane is sensible. If not in construction a crane will never be used all through the day I am sure. In construction of course only scaffold or manlift or crane suspended workplatforms(manbaskets) are employed.
Let us know of the out come of your research pl.

Dear All
I am attaching the following:
1. Photographs of the silo and chimney.
2. Quotation of Descending Kit and details received from M/s. Karam
3. Quotation of Ascending & Descending Kit details received from M/s. Udyogi
@ Keshav Sir
As you rightly said both the quotation which I got is of window cleaning kit... But both kit contains sit harness and saying ideal for use during long working hours... I have to get confirmation on this point...
One more point is that in both the case of silo and chimney I am having safe anchorage point on the top... So let's now concentrate on the descending mainly, as both having safe access to reach the top... Please suggest can I go for this product or any other such product is available which is more user friendly and safer...
You have stated that :
"Winch – will it help you to move around the chimney or silo? The answer is “No”!"
Can you please give explanations for this? Why it so?
In case of crane suspended man basket whats the secondory means of protection? Is that a full proof system? Whether the persons inside the man basket need to use the safety harness? If using safety harness, where one suppose to anchor?
Hope to get more participation into the matter from all of you...
