1. What is meant by "( 63 of 1948 )" mentioned in bracket after "The
Factories Act, 1948 "
2. Where can we get State Factories Rule ( Maharashtra) in Local
language
3. Which form / Format need to be used for Pre Employment medical
check up

Is it so important or is it just curiosity ? (On question #1 )
1. What ever it may be 63 of 1948 means ACT No.63 of the year 1948. Factories Act was passed as Act No.63 in the year 1948.
2. You have to enquire with law book stores or write to Fcatory Inspectorae seeking the information. If it is available in local language I am sure most law book stoes may stock it.
3. Refer to Factory Rules. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala it is form No.5 prescribed under Rule 14 for medical examination whether young persons or otehrwise and in case of fitness certificate Form No.27 or 27 A as applicable.. You may add additional information needed as per advise of your medical officer. In most other states also the same. You may check with your state Factory Rules and confirm pl.

Hey Abhay this saction stands for the "Principal Employer under section 2 (17) means, in a factory, the owner or occupier of the factory and includes the managing agent of such owner or occupier, the legal representative of a deceased owner or occupier, and where a person has been named as the manager of the factory under the Factories Act, 1948 (63 of 1948), the person so named.

" Child Labour " is not allowed by govt. then how factory act allowed to work " Young Person " (The Factories Act , 1948 Sec 2.d ; " young person = either child or an adolescent ) after permission of Certifying surgeon.

Have you ever wondered as to how India could bring out a comprehensive Factories Act so soon after independence?
We just copied almost everything from British Factories Act and added one item more and that is to provide spittoons. In British Factories Act there is no provision for providing spittoons. We with our culture of spitting any where and every where needed it to be there !
It is a laborious process and added responsibility to amend an act. There should be certain interested - vested or otherwise parties for amending an act. Who is interested in amending the factories act in India ?
One that we can imagine is that of Trade Unions for the Factories and other such Acts are for the protection of workers. Now they have better business than looking into the cause of workers and definitely safety had never been one on their agenda.
Child labor is prohibited. Factories Act has to be amended to that effect. But who cares?

Thanks for clearing the things .
( As per as spittoons concerned , before ur explanation my guess was like this : it was due to large number of textile mills in india before 1948 and due to cotton dust in working environment workers requires to spit, and workers used to spit anywhere in premises so british people who are more conscious towards housekeeping & hygiene at public places added this requirement.)
