Dear all,

I am basically a HR in a private company located in Tiruppur, there are many issues between employers and labors regarding daily wages, absenteeism, attrition etc.

Employees are not stable in a particular company, they switchover to more than five companies in a week for money. Still there is oscillation in the labor market. What is the solution ?

Hi Gangaraj
Is your organisation is one of the ready made garments manufacturers.
Is the organisation making all the payments to employees in time.
Please give the case in more detailed way.
Switching over to more than 5 companies in a week?. How it can be possible?
Approx. how many organisations and workers are there in your area.
How you came to know that they are switching over for money?
Try to know the reasons with the help of the questionnaire, which should include
behavior of supervisors/line managers, preferable timings(if your organisation appoints lady workers, some may prefer to work for half day), availability of transportation facilities. working conditions etc.
Normally for absenteeism the reasons may be - Habit, lack of interest, trouble at home, dissatisfaction with job, transportation trouble.
Then try both monetary and non-monetary motivation schemes.

Re: Where we have to find Blue collar employees
Thank u Mr.Knath, Textile units in Tirupur running with 4 lacs of labors now, but it actually requires 6.5 lacs of labors for all units. Shortage of manpower is 2.5 lacs, by the time newly started units are increasing the daily wages very rapidly, its ultimately affecting the big companies.
Shortage of labour causes all the problems, companies offering whatever the labors looking for. Being Big companies we cant afford all things, so wages are raising day by day.
Please get me the source to recruit blue collar employees.

Dear Mr. Genga,
Man power shortage is general scenario nowadays in all most all industries. No employee stick on with one employer for even a month. Because they are choosy.
Please adopt the following points.
1. Approach your neighbouring Orphanage Centres and speak with incharge, about your requirements. they will send u the suitable candidates as per your requirements from the orphanage.
2. There are lot of rehabilitation centers having skilled man power and seeking to render their support.
By this way I achieved manpower shortage and the employees are still with us, we also highlighted this issue as corporate social responsibility

Give them benefit of PF and ESI schemes. You can also provide incentive. Some scheme that can help their family may also be introduced.

  • You are clearly saying that there is a huge gap between demand and supply of manpower in your industry (garment and apparel).
  • I am feeling bit happy that, at least there is one industry and one location in India where there is serious shortage of manpower.
  • You are in a difficult situation. You are in Sellers' Market and seller (labor) will dictate terms of his/her employment. He/She will demand more salary and more facilities and in case you are not able to offer them then he/she will move to next employer whoever is offering employment with better terms.
  • Under the given circumstances you have no choice but to follow better employee practices than other employers to attract and retain quality manpower.
