Can you help me what is rate to deduct professional tax from employee salary for Maharashtra region? What is range and it has to deduct from Basic salary + D.A. am i right?

Hi Rashmika,

Please find the revised Professional Tax for Maharashtra.

This is to inform you that the monthly slab of Professional Tax for salaried persons has been revised with effect from 1st July 2009 as mentioned below:

1. Salary below Rs 5,000/-: Nil.
2. Salary from Rs 5,001 to Rs 10,000/-: Rs 175.
3. Salary above Rs 10,001/-: Rs. 200.
3.1) Rs 200/- per month except for the month of February.
3.2) Rs 300/- for the month of February.

Dear Rasmika,

Firstly, Professional Tax is deducted from the GROSS SALARY, not from BASIC + DA. According to the latest amendment, Gross salary up to Rs. 5000-00 is tax-exempt.
