Dear Seniors

I am in desperate need of your help.

I am working as a Personal Assistant to the Managing Director of a Pvt Limited company, which has branches all over India but is based at Jammu.

I am working here from more than four years. After Completing my 12th standard, My father got expired and due to financial problem of my family I joined this organisation as an Accounts auditor.

I continued my studies in correspondence mode and did my graduation(BA with marketing Management, Business management, English and political science), also i showed my calibre in the organisation and within 1.5 Yrs of my work tenure I got promoted to PA to MD.

I have been working here since last 2.5 Yrs and have never applied in any other organisation. I am working each day approx 12 to 15 Hrs and drawing a meagre salary of Rs. 6200 per month.

Now, i am really confused as some new candidates who are freshers and have done MBA have joined in my office and they are drawing more tahn 7500 per month and also they are trying to n superscribe me and this is making my position odd.

Now i m very much confused that what should I do as presently I cant leave my job because of my family's financial implications and I also cant work in this kind of environment where my work is not given due importance and my credibility is doubted.

Friends and Seniors kindly help me out as I am feeling very pathetic due to this cofusion and dilemma.

also suggest if you know any job avenues in or near Jammu.

I am desperately waiting for your replies and valuable suggestions.

Regards

Yuvraj

Dear Yuvraj,
There is no need for confusion of any kind. If MBA is paid Rs 7,500/- then I would say it is a meagre salary for them. Do you know how much investment they had one in getting the MBA degree?
If you feel that your market worth is high then why don't you try somewhere else? At least do the objective assessment of your career vis-a-vis your qualification, skills and knowledge.
Thanks,

Hi,
MBA or no MBA, leave that. Please look for another job. Once you have given interviews and are confident that you are eligible for a higher salary in other organisations, ask ur current organisation for a good hike. If they agree, good. If they dont agree, please go ahead and join another company.
Best of luck to you.

According to me, as you are PA to MD, you can directly discuss this with your MD...May be he is not aware of this disparity in salary. He may buy your point as you are an old employee to the company.
Also, you should go for higher studies through correspondence and look for other opportunity available.

Hi
This is the classical problem of compensation companies face. This is one particular aspect which is taught in MBA class and addressed with caution by the best compensation specialists in any company.
What Shikha & Dinesh say is perfectly alright. It is time you look for another job and while exiting from this company clearly mention this to HR. Also even before leaving this job too you can raise this concern with the right people in a very professional manner, because the company has a right to know about this problem.
Many companies chart out various criteria based on which compensation is planned and employees too don't feel cheated.
Suppose if the company has a policy that the higher qualification(MBA) one has the more pay(Rs 1000 extra) will be given etc...it will not cause so much of bad taste in the mouth.
Wish you all the best
Thanks

PA to MD holds a better postion than a manager...i apologise if im offending any og the members..but this is a bitter truth..i once heard an MD saying..if you sack my PA i will resign (it was due to the understanding he shared with that person).......
Yuvraj, talk to your MD about your dilemma, dont ask him to increase your salary directly...but let him know about your feelings..he might increase your salary or might help you upgrade yourself...and if you are comfortable in this jo and salary is the only issue..i would suggest..DO NOT THINK OF QUITTING!!!! Here more than your degree your experience is paying you...make most out of it!!

Dear Friend,
You can request your boss for the hike salary as it is meagre. But, you is not good for you that request your boss comparing with the salaries of MBA Graduates. It is common that higher degree will be given more preference. But your salary is not justified, as you are bearing more responsibilities.

Hi Yuvraj,
I agree with premlata advice. You can do as she said, but remember one thing, while you asking hike in salary you should not compare with others salary. you have full eligibilbily. Expereinced persons are are always valued everywhere. Ask your MD else you can find another job. Dont leave the job till you get a new job.
Thanks

Yuvraj-

Can you share the following details with us -

1. What do you actually do when you say that you are PA to MD?

2. What is the job role for the MBA's which are hired at your end - do these MBA's do the same work or assigned the same work that you are supposed to do?

I am asking these question because:

1. If your work areas are different, then a different pay suffices

2. If your work areas are similar, then there is a disparity in the pay.

To give you an example - if i hire someone for a executive role @ 2.40LPA and an existing executive is drawing @ 1.80LPA then there is a disparity in their salaries if they share the same job role and assigned to same department. However the disparity would be justified if both of them are working for a differnt department and have different work allocations.

All my esteemed collegues over here havent really explored the reason behind the disparity or otherwise and hence you reaching a conclusion over the advices / views expressed by them, wont lead you to a better decesion.
