Not Body Language, Body as Language
Our age will see the triumph of body over mind. The body knows more than the mind can even figure out. Our eyes record million bits and pieces of information like video camera, but the mind filters out most of it. The mind only sees that which it wants to see. No wonder our body records and remembers so much more that what we are able to memorise. Ever heard this expression, “Muscle memory”? If you have forgotten the password on your computer, try recalling it by moving your fingers on an imaginary keyboard. Chances are your fingers will recall the password even when you memory fails. Or take the case of a backhand tennis shot that you used to hit well. When you are out of practice, the best way to recall the forgotten shot is to physically go through the motions of playing the best shot.
Managers who negotiate deals often talk about interpreting body language. Don’t use the language of mind to understand body language. Body itself id language. Just try and read it directly in the body. For instance just recognize how your body becomes green with envy or red in anger and white in fear. The body not only remembers your password but also marks the passage of emotions as source of data. Experience reality in your body without the hindrance caused by thoughts. The body never deceives in the way it feels. Only the mind goes wrong when it interprets
