I am an MBA(HR) a male candidate and willing to work in HR due to my passion for it. It seems like I would be unemployed for life as I am searching for job I am getting a Note - female candidate only. I just need a job in HR. Can you please explain to me why is it so.

Dear Tushar,

It is unfortunate to note that you are victim of gender bias.

Every field or discipline gets influenced because of the lack of objective consideration and HR is no exception. It is a complete myth that women handle HR jobs better than men.

Except for HR and Finance, all other function demand in-company or field movements. While the job of a Purchase Manager may not be 100% field job, it is not sedentary also.

The bias for "women-only-in-HR" results out of India's culture also. 21st-century women still some elements of the "Bharatiya naari". Bharatiya naari is obviously is considered as a weak person to do the field jobs. She is considered even weak to do an odd job of a Warehouse Manager. Therefore, it is logical to give them office-centric jobs than the jobs that require the usage of physical tools, instruments, equipment etc.

So what are your choices? These could be as below:

a) First, one is waiting eternally for getting the right job in HR. However, this is risky as long-duration unemployment is not conducive for career growth.

b) The second option is to go get into the jobs of Industrial Relations. This kind of job will require handling matters of discipline, dealing with unions etc. There will not be any competition from women in this kind of job but dealing with rustic or even earthy union leaders is not simple either.

c) The third option is to enter into other functions like Purchase, Warehouse etc. I conduct the training programmes on Supply Chain Management (SCM) and I have come across with a good number of participants who did not have an MBA in Operations Management or SCM. Purchase and supply chain are male-dominated jobs and chances of you becoming a victim of gender-bias are very less.
