Dear Friends,
Ours is an IT Training and devt company.
We are about 10 people working.
5 people are students.
I have requested by boss that the company should provide tea/snacks facility at break times on company's expense.
But my boss says the employees has to take care on tea expenses.
Is there any rule that the company should take care on tea expenses? so that i can recommend by boss to take care of those expenses.
pl advice.

There is no rule as such regarding Tea Coffee to be provided by the Employer. It is just the concern shown by the management. I don’t think you can do much here.

Hi Senthiltrn,
There are many small firms in India specially, where there is a bias regarding which expenses should be bared by employer and which one by employees.
If you are 10 employees, does not matter that 50% of them are students, but ultimately they are working for a company. so it is duty of company to provide facilities of tea/coffee twice in a day.

You posting is confusing. In one line you say the facility is on company's expense, and then you talk about employees bearing the expense. Which is it?
Providing tea and coffee for 10 employees surely would not be an onerous expense for your company. Of course you would need to provide cups etc, or ask employees to bring their own cup.
Easiest way is to provide just one type of coffee and one type of tea and maybe one simple snack. If anyone wants anything different, then they must provide themselves. Tell employees that supplies are limited to fair usage, and once the weekly ration has been used, that's it. That should help to avoid wastage and excessive usage.
If it is at employee expense, maybe consider collecting a small amount weekly from each
employee to cover the cost of purchasing supplies.
You also need a roster for each employee to take turns at making sure the kitchen area is kept clean and tidy.

Providing Tea/Snacks is not a law. It is a caring gesture of Employer to his employees.
