Generally subsequent increase in notice period implies modification of the existing contract of employment. Therefore, naturally all employees will not welcome such a change. Particularly employees belonging to workman-cadre will oppose it before the conciliation officer as it requires amendment of the existing Standing Orders applicable to them. The employer should be able to explain the rationale behind such a change based on convincing reasons.
