Dalip,
to the best of my knowledge, banks categorize accounts under heads like salary, high net worth, HUF etc. "your account number" would reveal this info.
so changing the category would involve in modifying the account number which bank ppl are not comfortable with.
so a person has to open a new account which coems with certain frebies like zero balance, OD etc.
since you already have a account why bother about changing the categories.
i myself have been using a tripartite joint account for salary purposes till date.
A 7-8 year bank account grows along with good fundamental will help you in landing a loan upto 1o--15 lacs real fast.
