Hi,
I was wondering how can someone drive English Speaking.
I've trained some staff at my orgn. to communicate in English, have followed the Kirkpatrick model approach. Trained them, took their inputs on how they can improve their speaking skills, involved the supervisor to help them as well. However thats all I could do.
I've also asked the managers to involve the group in weekly meetings where they talk in english, include some kind of penalty for every word not spoken in english.
I need some more suggestions on how to drive this.
Regards,
Pawan

Hi Pawan,
Kindly establish the WHAT and WHY of the training process before the HOW.
Is it mandatory for your organization members to communicate in English? Have you explained WHY are we doing this? It is a medium of communication and not achieving the zenith of success if you can communicate in English or any other language for that matter. Is speaking in English more important than employees achieving productivity and exceeding customer expectations?
Think about the weightage of speaking in English in an employee's performance appraisal cycle and accordingly push this project.
Nothing to demotivate your efforts however pondering on the above thoughts may help refine your goals.
Thank you

Hi Sarang,
Thank you for your inputs. I've done the Whay & Why, since the team faces users on a daily basis its essential for them to communicaite in english. This is one of the pain areas which has been highlighted time & again.

Dear Pawan,
IF it is mandatory, why dont you do a need-based analysis instead of training all and sundry. Classify those members who face end users and who ABSOLUTELY need to speak in English. Then sending them for a formal English speaking course may be considered if its too much for a single person.
Accordingly, you can rotate people according to their skills in different shifts where they are utilised to the fullest, instead of placing anyone in any shift.
Thank you

Thanks Sarang. I've done a complete TNA & then designed the content. There are selected people who've attended the session.
Yes regarding rotating the shift, I can probably look at the option & do a feasibility check.
Thanks for your inputs.

Hi Everybody
If you want to learn English, than first make a habit of listening of english lectures, english news and as well english movies. Because it will bring some sort of confidence, Because in your childhood you don't know any language than how did you learn your monther tongue? with the habit of listening in the home from your family members.
So, my only suggestion before enter into spoken english institute, please make a habit listening the english, it will build your confidence.

Dear all,

Interesting and helpful suggestions from members.

It is true that today English is corporate language. If you are not speak in English you cannot grow fast even you are capable.

During discussion, attending seminar, meeting you will face a problem and You can not express you view , you will present there as a viewer and feel very shame.

It is must, you have a minimum knowledge of speaking, writing and understanding an English.
