Well, my university is offering these 2 courses for the fall:
Compensation Management
Training and Development
Which course should I take? Mind you that my HR interests are more into OB and Org. Development. So which one would be of greater benefit to me?

I suggest you to take up T & D, at the same time you can also gain knowledge abt Compensation mgt by reading books -Nothing to loose.

I tend to agree with the previous post.
Having taught both these courses at the University level, previously, the Training and Development Course, properly taught and studied, should offer more key learning points which will be of long term benefit.
A good text to assist you would be Desimone's Human Resource Development (Thomson, 2002). It focuses on not only the T&D issues, but also learning theory, evaluation and assessment, and coaching. Note: I've taught from this text, and use the background information in both my Consultancy and in my writing.
Compensation can be picked up at a future date or at a higher level of study.

BOTH COURSES HAVE EXCELLENT SCOPE AND OPPORTUNITIES.
IN case of compensation, it is limited .
-you can use the skills within HR DEPARTMENT.
-you can become an expert / offer consulting service in
compensation development.
In case of training and development, it has wider scope
-you can use the skills within HR department
-you can gain expertise/ become training development consultant
-you can be a professional trainer
-you can be a franschisee for training companies
etc
It is your aptitude / interest / passion for the subject
would determine the choice. There is money in both.

hi centerpide
It is good if you select training and development so that you have a good exposure of learning in the days to go. when you opt for compensation management, i think that you could not have any learning oppurtunity.
taking into consideration, take T & D rather going in for Compensation Management.

Hey how about supporting the underdog...
Are we all undermining the importance of compensation management in comparison of training and development... just think about the following
  • # impact of current events on compensation and benefits programs
    # challenges of new legislation and regulations.
    # new industry trends and practices.
    # answering employees' and colleagues' questions on compensation, pensions and retirement, and health and welfare benefits.
In the industry where the Human resource is scarce and companies are trying to better their offerings to employees to attract / retain them, can we really undermine the compensation management... ???
We had a problem in our company for over 3 months [just sorted] for the payment structure following the FBT. Further the compensation structure of competiting companies [for HR resources] also affect on how to structure your own compensation structure..
