Dear Seniors,

Good morning, i am completed in MBA (HR) & working as a Hr-Generalist in factory about 6 years, i would like to change my career in to IT sector. Will this make my career degrade or will it boost my career in Hr. Is that a right choice to change my career to IT? or should i continue in manufacturing sector?. Seniors kindly advise me on this.
Thanks in advance.

HR is HR where ever you work. Every organisation has the same HR processes and procedures, i.e, training, pay, leave, welfare etc etc. All that changes is you work with a different set of people with different skill sets. Factory workers may have some differing aspects to office bound workers, e.g. government acts that dictate working conditions, etc, that's about all.

Dear Punith Kumar,

It is not a question sector alone. Whether in manufacturing or IT or any other sector, you should have intellectual and financial growth. As long as you feel that you are growing in both, you need not change the industry. Even if you feel that you are not growing intellectually or financially, you may look for opportunities within the same sector. This is because growth in the same industry segment is always advantageous. In contrast, a change in the sector requires learning the dynamics of that industry segment. It is not easy for everyone.

Probably you have a feeling that the IT sector pays better hence taking a plunge. However, I know a few HR professionals who are caught in a rut. Though might have grown financially, they are not growing intellectually. But they continue for the sake of their housing or any other EMI.

There is no specific reply to your question. It is a gamble. The change of sector may fetch you better returns, reasonable returns or negative returns. It will be your call only.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
