Today women employees in IT field are compelled to make a decision. At one point of time or other they are to take up family responsibilities and sacrifice a bright career or take up career and sacrifice family life.
What is the remedy for this?
Can there be a HR environment which can help the women employees in different ladders of IT to meet the family responsibilities as well .

Yes, it is very difficult for them to choose between family and profession. But maximum of female employees choose family.
Remedy according to me could be:
Flexi working hours
Work from Home
Child care facility in office
Re-employment after a break

Yes True, me myself is going thru the same, would be taking maternity leave soon....and have no other option but to resign, as i Dont have any support system at my home, we r a nuclear family.....can't think of leaving the baby with maid.
What i would think of as a ideal employer, who can provide work from home opportunity or day care at office ...do these employers exist??
I know, it doesnt make much of sense to the employers to go to this extent, as it needs infrastructure and overhead cost to indulge in same.

This is Nirupama from Hyderabad.Really it is a nice topic to discuss.In my opinion, re-employment after a break facility should be provided to the female employee.So that they will be able to take care of both family and professional life.

They say equality is given to women every where. When we put the question _ career vs family. it is only the women who sacrifices career.
Let the top HRs think about this and find a way to utilise the potentials of these women.

This is a very relevant topic. I just got back to work six months back after a maternity break.
I 'll narrate my experience with respect to how employers treat maternity leave as a burden to them. During my interview for the position of Asst. Manger in an IT co. of a strength of 200 , I was asked about my plans on building a family. Though it is a very personal question...in my experience of 6 yrs I have faced this question quite a few times.
My plans were different ..then ....somethings in life happens for good...after 6 months of joining I had an excellent review from my Boss but when i broke the news to my Boss that i would require maternity leave 9 months later....thats after i complete more than 1 yr of service with the co. ...His reaction was " But you told me u did not have any such plans". And I was put under severe mental pressure that I had to put down my papers in two months.
I took a long break and now my baby is 1 yr old and am back to the corporate life.
Hope one day our corporate world will be more sensitive towards women folks...

Hi,
This is Archana from bangalore. I m newly married and i don't have any plans to extend my family for another 2 years. But still at times i get worried thinking that, in a place like bangalore where you cant afford to stay without a job, if you have to leave your job when you are going to have a additional responsibility, is very scary.
In such cases I think working from home is the best option but as companies have constraint in doing so, we can atleast for compressed working hours.
