A R Rahaman first time Worked has a music director in Kannada for the movie "Dance Raja Dance"
And
Amithabh Bachan's First South Indian Language film was in Kannada is "AMRUTHA DHARE".

Thanks for the update. I was little bit confused with the movie name Amrutha Dhare & Nanna Preethiya Hudugi as both are Nagathihalli's film. I agree that the Bachan's first south Indian film is "Amrutha Dhare"

S, In TV Show interview Director of "Dance Raja Dance" Mr. Dwarakish himself said this statement.
By that time A R Rahaman was called has Dilip Kumar.
And He is the one who introduced Mr. A R Rahaman to Film Industry.

I checked up about ARR's music. The music director for Dance Raja Dance is Vijayanand. ARR worked with vijayanand for orchestration and back ground music. So A.R.Rehman is not the music director for Dance Raja Dance.
Same way ARR worked with Vijayanand for the film Inspector Vikram.
To conclude A.R. Rehman never worked for Kannada Movies as main music director.
