Introduction: - This training programme is based on famous book written by Patrick Lencioni. The Five Dysfunctions of a Team outlines the root causes of politics and dysfunction on the teams where you work, and the keys to overcoming them. Counter to conventional wisdom, the causes of dysfunction are both identifiable and curable. However, they don't die easily. Making a team functional and cohesive requires levels of courage and discipline that many groups cannot seem to muster.

How this Programme is Different?: - Most of the training programmes on teamwork revolve around the games. Sometimes the training is conducted outbound also increasing the cost of the training further. Should the training programme be costly? The dysfunctions are nothing but diseases of the organisation. Do organisations succeed in eradication of the diseases that they are afflicted with? This training programme aims at understanding these diseases. This can very well be done without overdose of games.

The Five Dysfunctions: - According to the book written by Patrick Lencioni, the five dysfunctions are:
  • Absence of trust—unwilling to be vulnerable within the group
  • Fear of conflict—seeking artificial harmony over constructive passionate debate
  • Lack of commitment—feigning buy-in for group decisions creates ambiguity throughout the organization
  • Avoidance of accountability—ducking the responsibility to call peers on counterproductive behaviour which sets low standards
  • Inattention to results—focusing on personal success, status and ego before team success

Objectives of the Training Programme: - Objectives give us a sense of direction, a definition of what we plan to accomplish, and a sense of fulfilment when they are achieved. On completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Understand what is synergy and how collective outcome is more than individual outcome
  • Understand various dysfunctions of a Team and develop skills for resolving disruptive conflict among team members
  • Understand difference between positive and negative conflict and how to eradicate negative conflict and substitute positive conflict in its place
  • How to foster collaboration at the workplace

Unique Programme Takeaway: - On the second day, participants will be given simulation that is based on a board game however; it is further modified to the requirements of corporate training and converted into simulation. Faculty along with his fellow trainers has developed this simulation indigenously. In the simulation, various qualities of the participants like orientation to teamwork, creative mindset, collaborative attitude, leadership etc are brought out at a time. In the debriefing, topics like organizational communication, leadership, quality of decision making, importance of choice of direction etc will be discussed. After the simulation, participants will be told to come up with ideas of collaboration among themselves.

Training Notes and Material: - A handbook on respective training module would be provided during the training. A soft copy of the training handbook would be sent to you 3-4 days before the training. Please prepare sufficient number of copies ready for distribution during the training.

Training Methodology: -

  • All the adult learning tools will be used in the training. It will have games, exercises, role plays etc
  • A combination of videos, slides, group discussions, brainstorming, and case study examples will be used within each module.
  • Each module is designed to encourage active participation from each group member.

ROI on Training: - The returns on the training are measurable. Participants would be given exercise on how to measure the ROI of this training.
